Holy crap. I was reading the thread not paying attention to the dates and then I saw a post by BobberFett and I thought, I haven't seen him post in a while. Then I saw a post by Elledan and thought, WTF? That's when I noticed the dates.

I use Adobe GoLive myself, which is just as easy to learn as Dreamweaver, or even moreso if you're used to other Adobe apps (PS, Illustrator, etc.). GUI, same familiar tool palettes, menus, and so on.

FrontPage sucks. Its basically "Word for the Web".

I use GoLive 6 at school and Dreamweaver MX 2004 at home. I just don't like that with GoLive you can't make layers. Unless I haven't found it yet in the objects tab. 😵

Actually, any new programs out there? (While I go DL the trial of DW)...

Since the people that run the company I work at are cheap bastards I was forced to find a program on my own called N-vu. It's a decent program for free but nothing beats Dreamweaver.

I like Dreamweaver MX the best. Since you are a beginner, STAY AWAY FROM MS FRONTPAGE!! It'll completely cripple your HTML education. It would also be a good idea to get a book like HTML for Idiots, or something like it to get your feet wet and learn the basics/fundamentals like how web servers & web hosts work, FTP-ing and such.

Also, grab some good image processing software. I like Photoshop 7 w/ Imageready 7. I've also seen Microsoft Digital Image Suite 9. That one is pretty good, and is a little less archaic than Photoshop, but developing good Photoshop skills can help your resume.

Good luck!

not necessarily true for the newest Frontpage. 2003, i think.

i used it during my web development classes and it does a nice job of avoiding bloated code. color coding is nice and the preview functionality is cool.

i remember the older versions did suck, though
