What's the best PSU right now?

I'm looking to buy a new PSU, and the last time I did any research, the Antec 850 Signature series was one of the best to have. Now I'm in the game again, on my new build of a new i7-rig and I'm just wondering what kind of PSU is the best out there? I'm looking to get a i7-930, oc that to 4GHz, 5870 (or gtx 480) 12GB of ram, SSD/1TB HDD.

I know this needs a lot of juice, so anybody know what's the Best PSU out there now?

Antec Signature is still one of the best. Seasonic M12D or S12D are also very good. Seasonic X series is very close to king of the hill right now. If you are only running a single card then the 650W version of any of those will be fine..although the S12D only comes in 750W and 850W....the Antec Truepower New is similar to the M12D and comes in 650W.
 
Don't forget the XFX XPS series....if you can handle the color.

And I'd even throw in the Corsair HX's in that power range, too.
 
I've had enermax liberty PSU's, and they all died on me... don't know if I want to use them again...

Long solved problem Enermax had with their caulking they used to use in their power supplies. That's a long gone problem.

But the Enermax line is quite expensive given the competition is so intense and other brands perform equally to the Enermax lineup at lower cost.
 
I personally have ordered a Corsair TX 950 950W psu for my i7 920@4ghz + 5970+5870 (+5850 benchmark only) build. Having owned a Corsair TX 750, I have no complaints. In terms of reliability and longevity I would pick Corsair out of the entire stack.
 
Seasonic X650 powers my rig with plenty of room to spare. About 450W full load. It's an excellent PSU, I heartily recommend it. It's cool, efficient, and dead silent. Maybe pick up the 750W version if you're paranoid.

i would think the old PCnC was the best.

And i use a 1.6KW Ultra.

However im running a 980X overclocked + quadfire :X

My #1 by far right now is the Seasonic X750. Gold efficiency, high quality components, extremely quiet. There are no negatives I can think of except possible humming from the electronics itself.

No...not really. They were ONE OF the best, but not THE best. Antec Signature is every bit as good as the top end 860W PC P&C...actually, it tested out better at HardOCP.

I'd say Zippy could easily be considered one of the best. If I wanted a PSU built like a tank and sounding like a leaf blower...I'd choose Zippy over PC P&C.
 
Seasonic X-series - Best performance, expensive
Antec Signature - Almost as good, still expensive
Corsair HX & Antec TP New (great values)
XFX Black - Great units, good vaue, butt ugly

Antec CP-850 is the best PSU value available, bar none. But, you have to use an Antec 1200/P183/P193 case because it isn't a standard ATX design.

Nothing!

Compared to the Seasonic X-Series (and the way less efficient Antec Signatures).
The main reason is that there is no real need for a 1kW Unit, not for a single GPU Setup and not for a Dual GPU Setup (well, maybe with 2 GTX480 but who uses them?)...

Before warned here!
Certain X58 mother boards have issue's with perfectly working quality PSU, A cheek with the MB forum will usual show witch ones are having these issue's.
Example certain EVGA X58 MB will not work with Enermax power supplies, I have had to RMA two perfectly working units with my MB.

I'll also suggest if you want the best that money can buy PC power and cooling, there not cheap either so.....

I'm gonna say to be honest, that's just overpriced and old technology. They're certainly good psus from a stability standpoint, but there's so much more to a psu. I'd much rather have the high end seasonics, enermax, corsair, etc over those turbo-cools. At least I don't know about you, but I like psus that do NOT make my ears bleed.

Seasonic made the power supplies for PC Power and Cooling back when they were considered good.
 
The x20W Corsairs are end of life and not made anymore.
The 650W Version isn't that good, since you'll get a Truepower New for the same price.
The TX750 isn't that good either and he won't need a 750W unit anyway...

Only the Silencers, and even then, Sparkle was the first manufacturer of Silencers, followed by Seasonic.

Win-Tact was the manufacturer of the Turbo Cool line...just off-the-shelf units rebranded for PCP&C.

+1 i love my X750 best unit you can buy period.

They don't make the X-Series in 850W. You don't even remotely need 850W for a single graphics card. The X-Series are better than the M12D or S12D. If you are willing to spend that sort of money, I would just get the X-Series 650W....if you are that paranoid, get the 750W.
