Best tank was 16.7. I win. What? This isn't like golf where lowest score wins? Nevermind then.

The best was 50+ out of my 1965 Vauxhall Viva, 1L 4 banger, car couldn't have weighed more that 1100 lbs,

--edit-- I was 16, didnt really keep track, the gvw was 1500lbs, Driving it home I did make the 800km run on a tank (<10 gals)

29 on the last tank of the Altima,
40 ish out of my 1995 2.0 Avenger, but I think I was using Canadian (UK) gallons for that calculation, which would be 32 in US gallons.

2006 toyota corolla, best tank I got was right after I bought it 35.6mpg on a trip to myrtle beach sc. Had 4 people in the vehicle plus luggage, and it was all highway, cruise at 70mph. I have come close, 34.5mpg on 70mph with cruise on, but average 31mpg.

31 in my old 93 3.0L V6 taurus a few years ago, before it started crapping out on me. 29 in my current 98 3.8L V6 Camaro. Could get better if I had the manual, oh well.

People like SnipeMasterJ13 make me jealous :p

Unfortunately, it seems most of the ways to increase my mileage depend on other drivers not sucking like they usually do.

same in my 05' SE. it was on a long stretch of 120miles on the I90 in NY.

Time for some oldies. In the 80's I had a 81 Rabbit Diesel that got an average of 33 (mostly city), with a high of 46 on longer trips. My 82 Rabbit Gas got an average of 28 city, with a high of about 40 on longer trips. My 76 Datsun B210 got 35mpg on trips. It didn't have an overdrive. Technology hasn't brought any big changes in the last 25-30 years it seem.

Cleaner air (catalytic convertor and other polution controls) vs better mileage.

Don't forget all the mandated safety features and capability which add significantly to the weight. Luckily I drive the lightest car in it's class, the Ford Focus Coupe S, which is a shade under 2550lbs. Even the Sentra is ~3000lbs now! Jeeez.
