Today I got my new record... quite handily in fact.

I slowed down from the 68mph speed limit down to 61mph and managed 42mpg over about 150 miles. 90% Highway.

I normally average 36mpg for this trip at the speed limit, pretty good!

Car: Pontiac G5 Pursuit GT 2.4L

What about yours?

27 in my Altima 3.5SL.

Unfortunately, it seems most of the ways to increase my mileage depend on other drivers not sucking like they usually do.

Best I saw was 60mpg out of a tank of gas with my Suzuki SV650. Usually I average about 48mpg with mostly city riding.

First off my car is far from typical ...

100 mpg over 75 miles, average speed 45 - 55 mph, this spring.
Current tanks are 81mpg, or 850 miles per 10.5 gallon tank, this lasts about 4 weeks. Add on to that about $3.00 - $4.00 in electricity a month.

I'm not done counting yet...couple thousands of miles on my bike and still haven't used a gallon.

I think the Insight has the win here (for motorized vehicles), unless someone shows up with a Honda NX125 and a light throttle.

Personally, my old 89 Civic got me ~40 or so, with mild driving technique, no A/C usage, and mixed driving. Those were still the days of small/light cars :)

Last tank in my Mazda5 got me 370 miles from 11 gallons.
A little over 33MPG.

Not too bad. That's probably about the best I've got in a vehicle.

I'm currently squeezing out 17mpg city in my 5.3L Silverado. That's with bad tires too. I've gotten as high as 25 on the highway before going at about 55 with a tonneau cover.

Yesterday I averaged 57.8 MPG in my 240 HP Accord over 29 miles at ~55 MPH. Downhill, of course. ;)

But the trip uphill over the same route was 25.1 MPG, giving me an average of 41.95 MPG round-trip.

That figure was verified by my GPS and pump calibrated ScanGauge II. That's my best round-trip score since getting the gauge. It's also a great example of how engine efficiency increases with wider throttle openings. I used the mountain as a "momentum battery," ran the engine harder filling up my "battery," then cashed in the momentum downhill, where the engine used automatic fuel cutoff to coast a lot of the way back down using no gas. The result was less gas burned than if I had simply driven the same speed at constant throttle over level ground.

I've found that with a careful right foot, I can average ~35 MPG over long distances, including up and down mountain ranges.

34.57 mpg on my last tank. That's without A/C and 70hwy/30city.

My current tank will be with A/C on the same route. Just trying to see how much the A/C affects my mileage.
