you can always pick out the parts you want, and either buy them online yourself or give the list to a local "screwdriver shop" and pay them for their time spent building. You can have them install an OS/not, or whatever. I gave a guy $50 to assemble my system for me, after i ordered all the parts online myself. I didn't know as much about hardware as i do now though, however.

Seems like they're biting off of Falcon Northwest's fame. They were the original custom game PC makers, at least the first one I had heard of way back in the early-mid 90's ;). Just know that buying pre-made game PCs will usually cost more than building it yourself, but it does eliminate a lot of the hassle. Alienware and GamePC are other known companies you should check out.

biting off falcon northwest's fame.. ha... it seems like that kinda.. but their "about us" thing says that they have been in business since 95.. so they may be a decent company.... i'm trying to choose between Falcon Graphics, Hypersonic, and maybe gamepc.....

Alienware would get my vote. Just phone (or email) them, to find out specifics about RAM and such. But I'm certain that they don't use cheap components.

it just bothers me that a company that advertises quality computers is scared to post what brand stuff is in their computers..I like companies to be upfront and tell me stuff to start with... i will call them and find out... but also.. compared to the others alienware is ALOT more...

The cheapest i found for what i want is falcon graphics.... this is what they are offering.. for $3800... Alienware doesnt offer all of the items i want... hypersonic was 4200.. gamepc was almost 4500...falcon nw's configurator is down.. would everyone who is familiar with computer prices tell me if this is a decent price... from what i've seen this is a pretty good price..

Oh, I really doubt that they are "scared" to post the brand names... More than likely, they just don't want to clutter up the site.

I for one, can totally appreciate the need to know who the manufacturer of the RAM is. However, we are in the minority. Most people couldn't care less who makes the RAM.

also with alienware's case .. to access the cd-rom, burner, floppy drive etc... you have to move that front panel down.. adn if you do that you cover up the front fans... I may not be a computer wiz.. but i know covering up airflow is a very bad idea..

If I were spending that much money on a system the video card would be either the ultra or the GTS pro with 64 MB DDR. I would lose the scsi cdrw and get an ide version. Also lose the modem and go broadband.

But that just my opinion.

why would you go ide on the burner??? scsi is more reliable... it produces less "coasters" hehe.. i thought i had the 64... hehehehe.. oh well.. that raises the price a little more not much... and i would get broadband if I had it available!

cuz with "burnproof" it doesnt matter. BUT ide burners lag up your comp when your burning unlike scsi which uses their own channel. True, it only takes 6-8 mins for a full burn anyway but....the choice is urs

If you are going to go SCSI you might as well go all the way. 10,000rpm scsi hard drives and a scsi dvd player. The points made about why the cdrw shoudl be scsi are valid but I personally would not bother putting only one scsi device in my system. But again that is my opinion.

Good luck with your new system

alienware and other preassembled high performance gaming systems are horribly overpriced man...if your money matters to you, build it yourself. it would even be cheaper to buy all the parts and pay some tech to assemble it for you.

Let me put in a plug of Hypersonic-PC. I got my system from Hypersonic for $2280 in November. Check it out, if you like:
cmaMath's Rig

OR see this image map:
Imagemap of cmaMath's Rig

I had a defective PlexWriter and they promptly RMA and sent a new one (I really did not want to send my computer back when I could just swap).
