Well, the biggest 'wow' factor I ever got was when I started playing Doom. Lights off, speakers up, and that game used to make me JUMP!

Apart from that, I used to love Gunship 2000, Red Baron, Colonisation.... Games don't seem to last me very long any more...

oh yes, and Terra Nova. That game was so ahead of its time. Played like a dream, and the story drew you in. I was really hoping for that multiplayed patch and a sequel, but then looking glass went under. Damn.

TIE Fighter and CounterStrike

I really wish they would make an updated XWing vs TIE Fighter and make it a huge multiplayer game like BF1942.

That would be fun, but I don't see it happening.

I don't know why, but for some reason I don't like any games that use the Q3 engine.

Unreal Tournament has to be my all time fav, I've been playing it pretty much since it came out.

Best story - Xenogears.

Best gameplay, hard to say. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 7, Saga Frontier 2, hell, a LOT of games I like have great gameplay, too hard to narrow it down, they're all different, and all good.

Super Mario RPG for the SNES..... not a console gamer but SMRPG was incredible by any meaning of the word.
Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn + Throne of Bhaal expansion for the PC.

Other games have been fantastic and I feel bad not mentioning a few of them, but the aformentioned two are truly incomprehensible in how flawlessly executed they were.
Both games will undoubtedly stand the test of time and could easily totally engross anyone long after much more technically impressive games have become available.

Unfortunately, neither one will really get much of a chance, because this is the first time that I've heard of either, so chances are that it won't last too many more generations before fading into distant memory :)

Speaking of which, what about tetris? Now that *has* to be one of the most enduring games of all time.

Not having heard of SMRPG I can understand.... but you havent heard of Baldurs Gate???!
That seems as bizarre as not knowing what Half Life is.
It's widely regarded as one of the most revolutionary RPG's ever made and has won countless awards. Among the top selling RPG's ever made on the PC, and one of the very few PC RPG's to see a spinoff on a console system.

Even among non-fans of the genre pretty much everyone knows what Baldurs Gate is, somehow I strongly suspect your one of the very few that hasnt heard of BG.

In commenting that I think both will stand the test of time I was more commenting on my own experiences then the general consumer public.
In terms of the general public only the truly revolutionary will be remembered 10+ years on by a wide majority.... games such a Tetris, Pong, Doom, Myst, The Sims etc.

Even incredibly popular titles like the Quake series, Sim City etc. pales in reknown compared to the 5 mentioned above.
Of course Pong owes it's reknown to more to the time it was created moreso then actual gameplay.
