Texas tends to be alot friendlier than most Northern States. It was a huge difference when I moved from Michigan to Texas. Of course, you get alot more of the good old boy network.

Good ol boy?

Do you find people to be nicer and less rude in Texas? Glad you moved there?

Country people. Guess it's a southern term, heck I don't really know how to explain it to ya.

Used in this sort of context: "hes just a good ol boy"
Country people or country club people(old money). Masons and such.
Kind of opposite meanings really.

Good 'Ol Boy as in they stick to their own and sometimes bass ackwards thinking.
Country people and old money country club people. My point exactly.
If you think it's less so in big cities(at least in the south) it's just because you're so far below the network(the old money network) you don't see it.

I have lived in Texas all my life.

I would agree with most of the above. I think the majority of people are nice and friendly but as others said we have our fair share of jerks (we call them northerners...I kid, I kid). I have never spent more than a vacation outside of Texas and all those vacations were spent with people from Texas so I can't compare the people to other states. I can, however, say that you can get pretty much any scenery you want...beach (SE), woods (E), mountains (W), hills (Austin area), grasslands (panhandle), and a mix (NE where I live).

I refuse to live in any other state for more than a few years.

If you want a really friendly place go to small town Texas. As someone else pointed out everyone knows everyone else. Note: not reccommended for minorities. Texas has come a long way but there are still some small towns that are stuck in the 60's.

Pretty true. Yeah, I have seen it. I used to live in a very affluent neighborhood. And the country clubs around there, you could definitely see that mentallity. I think a lot has changed over the years though.

And no offense, but you'd be thinking wrong.
We'd all like to think stuff has changed, but it really hasn't.

The people in Texas are often very nice as long as, you know, you're not different, or are one of them, or look or sound like one of those. Beyond that, they like everyone. :)

Imo the only regrettable mistake this country made with Texas was during the reconstruction period, where we failed to give it back to Mexico. ;)

In General, I find the people nicer. Actually when I moved from Michigan it was shockingly different. A guy crossing the street tipped his hat, and we didn't know what it meant. (I was a bit naive)

The women are by far hotter at least in volume in my opinion, and I am quite happy I moved down here. Only real downside is that you really need to at least understand some spanish down here.

Well that sucks.

I have yet to come across a town in texas that I would even consider labeling racist, I have lived here all my life and been over a decent part of it.

I guess I just try to surround myself with people that don't have that mentallity, so I don't see it as often as I used to. That is a depressing thought.

It is what it is.
I'm a pretty cynical bastard and view life as a very sick, very hillarious joke.
I guess it's easy to be that way seeing as I'm sorta in the "good 'ol boys network". If I wasn't a WASP, educated in private schools, raised in a country club and attended manners school when I was 9 I'd probably be much more pissed at the world.
The way I see it is that things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

If it makes you feel any better, things are going to change soon, whether that means world peace or a world sized piece of radioactive jade glass, has yet to be seen.

I drove through Texas several decades ago, and that's the only time I was in Texas. What me and my partner experienced and agreed on was that the waitresses were in general gorgeous and young, the food great, and at the time it cost around $1/meal. We also noted that Texas was BIG and that people drove really fast on the open highway.

The information I've gotten the last several years suggests that Austin is the place to be in Texas. It has the most innovative music scene.

Moved here 9 years ago from the northeast and the people are definitely friendlier - something to be said about southern hospitality.
"I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as fast as I could" - saw on bumper sticker.
