<< Whatever you do, do not join Bally's Fitness. They've literally ruined some people's lives with their shady credit practices. >>

But the ladies on their commercials are so damn hot!

I joined when I was 17 for $17 or $18 a month. I pay in full every year and it comes out to $208 with tax or something like that. The last time I tried to renew the desk guy at Gold's had to get a manager because he couldn't believe the deal I had. I got pretty ripped for a couple years. Now that I have leg pain every day from my herniated disc that I had surgery on, hey it felt great for two months 🙂, I just sit around on my ass getting lazier every day.

They sure are. 😀

$26/month for corporate member. Just need to show them your pay stub.

Is it worth it to see beautiful bod stretching in front of you when you are doing crunches?

I can't find the site, but I remember reading somewhere how fitness centers price things like used car dealers do. They make a guess on what you might be willing to pay and that's what they offer. The closer you get to the door on the way out, the cheaper the price gets. They are heavily commission-based, so it you have taken up an hour of someone's time getting information they could be very motivated to offer you a deal to sign up instead of letting you walk.

No matter what, don't do any long-term deal. Not worth the chance. I saw a story once where a guy was a club member, and the club moved 30 miles away, and he was stuck paying the balance of the contract. The fine print said it had to move 50 miles before he was allowed out of the deal. Plus, if the club goes downhill in quality and maintenance you don't want to be stuck paying for 2 more years when you might prefer to move to another facility. Some places are quite uncooperative about letting people out of contracts - remember, many people sign up and quit coming very quickly. They can't afford to let them off the hook.

Read all fine print very carefully before signing.

we have 2 gold's where i live. the one i use costs me $17/month (memberships are somewhat higher now). the other gold's is $49/month + processing & initiation fees, but includes tanning, a juice bar, an internet cafe, a sports lounge, facials (no, not that kind), body wraps, manicures, pedicures, waxing, a hair salon, and a full line of salon & spa products.

on dec 26 at gold's gym, they had a special of $50 initial fee, 40/month. but when i went back on dec 31, it was $0 inital fee, $45/month. That sucks since after a year, i lose 🙁

but they were raising prices on jan 1, so i joined. i have a year to decide what to do.

oh, once u join, they will never raise rates. (ie: the guy on this thread paying $17/month.)

but the thing that sucks is that you only get 1 free personnal trainer session. and in that session, she only showed me chest/arms even though i said my main priority was a 6-ack abs). i need to buy more ($55/hr) for back/shoulders and legs. Do all gyms NOT show u how to use the machines for free and expect u to pay????

or did i get a sucky slow trainer?

I paid the student price of 200 dollars for the whole year at Golds (even though i'm not technically a student 😉) Not sure what the regular fee is. I go about 3-4 times a week so its definitely worth it for me.

Maybe what happened to you, XFILE, is that they were determined to get more money out of you. I wonder if someone who pays $60/month gets training assistance included, and the people who sign up under a special rate do not. (Just an example)

Do a search on google groups for "gym prices" and you'll get some good information.
