The cut before it went on the grill.

I made some rice with garlic and steamed broccoli to go with the steak. I rubbed some fresh garlic into the meat and some fresh ground salt and pepper to season then cooked it with a little butter in a cast iron skillet over high heat on the grill until it was medium rare.

The cut of meat is choice cut and fresh center cut beef tenderloin. It is the shit.

Pic of my dinner. :D

That rice looks good. I don't know if I've ever had rice with garlic before... sounds delish.

Thanks, it was fantastic. That steak cost $17 but it was worth every penny and a bargain compared to eating out.

That's something my wife cooked up actually. Someone gave us a jar of roasted dried garlic slices but it is way too potent to eat so she just throws some in with the rice when we cook it. It is very tasty actually.

Yeah I bet it was. There's a Ruth's Chris a few blocks away from me and every time I walk by it I get a strong desire to eat a steak :p. Too bad one steak there costs more than my weekly grocery bill. :(

Where does one even buy a $17 steak??

This particular steak came from Harvest Ranch in Encinitas, CA. They have choice and prime cuts of fillet mignon. This was a choice cut. I've had prime and honestly I don't think it's worth the premium. It is probably the best beef I've ever had and they always have it and it's very fresh.

I like to treat myself to a good steak dinner every now and then.

Nope, it is quite sticky and perfect. Not at all wet. It would make excellent sushi rice.

I confess, I did put a little butter on it.

hmm too sticky for my tastes then. I always thought sushi rice leans a bit too far to the sticky side for regular consumption. Either way, that steak looks really good

Butcher would be your best bet.

Don't even bother with the grocery store unless they got some premium beef.
Depending on the cut and thickness, couple steaks can cost you like $30 bucks easy.

I'm drooling you bastard. I am on a diet right now for cardiac health reasons (cholesterol, blood pressure etc.) ... a vegan diet, and I could go for a steak right now :(

Actually, I'm doing pretty well, and don't mind not eating most meats ... but ... a nice, medium rare steak? Damn.

Must go wipe chin.

i either get my steaks from a local butcher or the farm down the road (he has a ranch).

the butcher though is great. always get a good cut every time im there. while more then a grocery store its far better. same with the hamburger. in the store its $2.79/lb at the butcher its $2.29/lb and is much better.

That's medium rare? I would call that medium. Not saying that I'm right, but that's what I always thought medium was.
