whats fastest cpu for the $ to do seti w/u? and which mboard?

Asus A7N266-VM might be worth a look also. nForce 220D chipset, onboard video/sound/LAN, microATX. Although it isn't going to be quite as fast as boards with nForce 420 chipsets due to the lack of the dual-channel memory controller (probably 5-10% slower), the price diffence would allow you to more than make up for it in the CPU department.

If you had some extra PC133 SDRAM lying around, you might also look at the Biostar M7VIG, which is using the KM266 chipset, a variant of KT266A with the addition of onboard video. This board has both DDR and PC133 slots.

h,mm
good suggestion,as the computer i want to upgrade has the pc 133 sdram,512 worth
{2 sticks of 256 eacH!}
Thanks!!!!!!
😀

Duron DURON DURON! 😀

btw... I have several of them for sale - along with ASUS K7T Turbo Ver 3 mobos. Menu-driven, and 1/4 volt stepping with several ways to tweak for overclocking, a nice combo - definitely rocks for the money. The 600 Durons will do 900 without breathing hard, the 700's will do over 1Ghz, but you have to do it carefully. 988 was the best solid performance I got.

My Duron 1.1 GHz @ 8.5x145=1233MHz does most WU's in 4.75hrs and that with PC133 RAM 🙂

I also temporarily have here a Duron 1.2Ghz with DDR RAM ,now if I can get the damn thing to run stable I'd be able to give you WU times!:|

Athlon XP 1800+ $92
Shuttle AK31A $59
Both prices from newegg.com.

The Shuttle is by far the best bang for the buck board. I am running that board and it won the bronze medal in the KT266A motherboard roundup on Anandtech. It's a great board and dirt cheap. I'm averaging 3:45 with that board and a 1600+.

my AXP 1800+ @ 2000+ ranges in WU times from 2:45 - 3:15

It definitely lays a SETI WU time smackdown! any more new additions to my fleet will definitely try to make them AMD.

which motherboard ,and memory you running?

Well I got the DDR Duron rig stable a while back ,turned out to be too low voltage to the RAM!

,anyway with the 1.1GHz Duron at 1210MHz (CL2,9x133) it is achieving 4hrs 35-40 mins/WU with an AR of 0.4xx.
With the same CPU in the SDR board at the same speeds (9x133,CAS2) it was achieving about 4hrs 58 mins for 0.4xx WU's

which motherboard, and memory do ya use? Please...😱 bumpo

I run eccp. No performance loss on my duals as compared to uniproc machines.
<-2 x Celeron 466/MSI-6114 | 2 x Duron 1.2/Tiger MP | 2 x XP1700/A7M266-D

Not sure which setup would give you the most Seti WUs for the money but Sean2002 just put together a new P4 that he has overclocked and it is putting out unbelieveable times. Look at the results of two High AR WUs (easy to crunch - go real fast).

I'm Smoke3, 1900+XP OCed to 1717 MHz. 🙂

Sean2002 is running a Pentium 4 2.26GHz w/150 FSB :Q

AR 7.796 Smoke3 3:02 (Hr:Mn) 🙂

AR 3.611 Sean1 2:04 (Hr:Min) :Q

With my 8K3A and my 1600+ I just cranked the FSB up to 166.66 and Im averaging 3 hours for a WU... thats 1750Mhz for thoose who dont want to do the math 🙂 Id go faster but my crucial PC2100 doesnt like over 166 with aggresive settings.

I kind of dont get that webpage with SETI spy.

Its saying that a single proc runs faster (significantly so) than a dual proc machine? Never thought the Pentium III Xeon's or Pentium Pros would perform so well (based on that chart a pentium III katmai is faster than an AthlonXP??).

That charting is talking about CPU effiency (damn I can't spell:|) , a single CPU will have a lower WU time than a dual CPU rig ,but the dualie will put out more WU's/day.The % effiency is lower for a dualie than a single but it does more WU's.The effiency hit isn't anyway near as much with an Athlon rig compared to a PIII rig as the Athlon has seperate memory buses for each CPU where as the dual PIII's hare a single memory bus.
The other cpu's figures shows you how well they do measuring WU time/MHz.

I just built the exact same setup ( 1600+AGOIA) and have it at the exact same speed, and don't want to push it anymore because my 2100DDR Crucial at turbo timings is already pushing I feel too 🙂 Thanx to shuxclams hooking me up on his queue I'm averaging around 2hrs 50mins a WU :Q😀 I don't think there is a better price to performance ratio for crunching WUs going right now!
