What's easier to make money off of?

It seems that marketing these days try to expose either people's ignorance and lack of willingness to research--or it capitalizes on people's insecurities in thinking they need the biggest, best, and most expensive things in order to gain happiness.

I'm sure you guys can come up with better examples but here are a few:

ignorance/stupidity - paying geek squad rates, subprime mortages

insecurities - expensive cars, clothes

combinations - weight loss programs, bose home audio systems

Insecurities.

With ignorance, just one educated person taking the time to show someone the truth can cure the problem.

With insecurities, you could have 95% of the people you know telling you that everything was fine, and you'd still feel insecure.

How often does that happen though?

I would say it doesn't matter so long as your message is targeted. For guys it's hair, erections and cock size. (Because personality means nothing if you have a full head of hair and a large, rock-hard willy, right? Ladies? Helloooooo?)

For women it's all about boob size, a flat tummy and an absence of cellulite. (How do I end his caveman-like wandering ways...)

I think the insecurities lead to a willing ignorance of the facts. The thought that a pill can make your dick 3" longer or remove your cellulite... That's ignorance... But that kind of ignorance is fed by insecurity.

Nobody listens anyways. People are fucking dumb. I just get pissed off when they fuck up on credit which hurts everyone in the long run.

Dude... I just got a pre-approved credit card in the mail... $15k! Think I'll rent a private jet to Tampa and see if I can score a Super Bowl ticket!

Yeah, but people listen even less when it comes to insecurity.
"Hey, don't buy that cable, tests show that it's a waste of money that won't sound any better than using a clothes hanger."
(sometimes they buy it anyway, sometimes they say "Oh, didn't know that" and skip on it)

"Hey, you don't need a padded bra, they look just fine as-is and it makes it harder for me to get access."
(and damn if she doesn't wear it every time.🙁)

I too get really pissed when they penalize the smart, the competent, and the responsible. Even if I don't find myself in those categories every time....

I think insecurity wins.

Have you seen the Chevy commercials with Howie Long, where he essentially talks to the people who own other brands of trucks as if they were girls?

Neither. It's desperation. When people are desperate, they'll do things they wouldn't do otherwise in the hopes of surviving, say, an economic crises.

I say ignorance, because many insecurities can be directly linked to ignorance.

People get scared because they are presented something, take it as gospel and do not research the facts, it is easier to beleive what you see hear or read rather than actually find out for yourself what is true or untrue.

Researching takes work and more and more people are about the path of least resistance.

insecurities look at diet and cosmetic industries.

Hard to make money off stupid people since not many stupid people have money.

Way to stick with the question 😉

I'm in the legal industry so I'll go with ignorance/stupidity, Alex.

And I am (was?) in sales, so I vote insecurities. But there are different kinds of personalities that have to be sold differently. I remember FACE training where they taught us to spot the signs of different personalities and specific ways to treat each personality....

Yeah but I ordered quickly during a special promotional period and got another for just 1/2 price but wait, I also got a water tester and handy carrying case. I think I may have also qualified for a free (only have to pay S&H) Shamwow.
