i have generic ram, and i've heard cas2 is better for preformance. I'm all for that, but what the hell is it, will my ram do it, and if so how do i do it?

Generic ram for the most part will not run pc133 at cas2. The ones you find on pricewatch for $70 for 128MB will not do it. You need to buy at least micron or hyundai ram, that they sell for $120 or so for 128MB for it to run CA2. My recommendation is mushkin rev 1.5, rev 2.0 is worthless for athlon systems.

Generally generic RAM will not do CAS2 at it's rated speed (PC133 generally won't do CAS2 at 133, but probably will at 100, etc), but you may get lucky (I got a wonderful stick of PC133 that tolerates CAS2 and a bunch of other tweaks on my KT7 board for $104 :) ). Be sure to back up your data before you do this, as file system hosage may occur.

What you'll want to do is poke around in BIOS for settings dealing with memory timing (I forget exactly how my KT7 board refers to it). There'll be an option for 2 or 3, and 3 will probably be the one it's on.

A friend of mine has a stick of 128 mb pc-100 ECC sdram, made by some brand name company that starts with an "A" although i don't recall the full name. Anyhow , in his a7v mobo, when he sets the ram config to be "by SPD" in the BIOS, it sets itself at 2T for all the CAS setting (there is 3 settings in total). I find this wierd because I didn't think pc-100 sdram was CAS2-compliant. He says it runs with no problem and he's thinking of trying it at 133 mhz instead of 100.

any advice?

Just look at the last digits on the product code. If it says 7, you have some fast ram. If it says 10, like some I have seen, good luck.
