i second the political machine of daley, and also the riot at the DNC held in chicago in... 1968? it was in the sixties... that i remember.

You could also do the way chicago did voting during the nixon/Humphrey campains. Puts flordia to shame.
 
u can write about how chicago was the main epicenter for slaughterhouses in the US in the early 1900's. the slaughterhouses were a part of the first vertical integration of a company in which most of the western cow towns were connected to.
