What's a good RPG out now?

Anyone have any recommendations for an RPG? Looking for a new one. I've already played and beaten the Baldurs gates, neverwinters, icewinds, etc.

I'm looking for a good, story-driven RPG. The reviews on Dungeon Lords blow, so forget that one, too.

thoughts?

Oh, I meant PC.

And I don't know if I could play through KOTR because I hate star wars.

KotOR and KotOR2 are AWESOME games (I heard great things about 2, but I can't run it on my laptop. just wait till my new rig is up and running.... and KotOR just kicked ass to play....still does). Though I HIGHLY recommend Morrowind as well. LOVED that game and still do. Has a TON of retail value and you can just free-play it like almost no other (the Escape Velocity (EV, EV:eek:verride, and EV:Nova) series is the most free-playable that I've EVER run into, though).

Unfortunately the the recent flood of MMORPG's (99% of which are garbage) has destroyed the traditional RPG genre. If you're looking for another Baldur's Gate, you're going to be looking for awhile, because it's just not out there. My advice is to wait for the next Elder Scrolls game and play that when it comes out. Apparently the developers have cut down on the amount of walking required by making teleportation easier, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Not the answer you were looking for, but that's the truth.

Short Answer They're aren't any.

next elder scrolls game comes out in October, iirc. Called Oblivion and it takes place in Cyrodill. It also features a new, more advanced combat engine (SWEET!), same use-based level advancement system, and intelligent AI.

I can't wait. The screen shots on the ES website are simply incredible :D.

Edit: part of the charm of morrowind was the walking around. it made you value where you were on the map and the distance between places, etc. it also emmersed you in the world when you had to walk all over and look at the scenery. I LOVED doing quests near Vivec city b/c of the gorgeous landscape of the Ascadian Isles region. I felt like I was a PART of the world by having to traverse alot of it.

Though the teleportation system for oblivion is nice, since you can still walk around and there's plenty of territory to explore, but when you'd rather just go straight back to a certain place, it's nice to be able to do so.

I don't want anything that needs to be played online.

maybe ill give morrowind another chance.

I'm so spoiled from Bioware that its hard to find games that live up to their lofty standards. :(

KOTOR 1 has a good story, nothing like the "episode 1" new-Lucas garbage.

Have you played through any of the third-party Neverwinter modules? There are eleventy-billion of them at NeverWinter Vault

Also, have you played Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1-2?

Get a PS2, lots of RPGs there. It's not too huge an investment, especially considering it's about half the price of any decent video card.

Do you have Deus Ex? It's more of a FPS/RPG hybrid but still has quite a bit of role-playing in it.

KOTOR is bioware as well, ya know ;) (not KotOR2, since that's from Obsidian. and apparently, while bioware did some nice slick and tight coding with KotOR, Obsidian was a bit sloppy with the coding of KotOR2, and it shows when you try and play it on or very near the listed minimum spec. as in, don't even TRY running it if one of your hardware components is not on the supported list).

Not a bad idea, you can pick up the Final Fantasy series for about $15 a game, FF 7 - 9, X, X-2. Plus Chronicles and Anthology for really retro gaming.

I dont like starwars but I still think Kotor 1 and 2 are some of the best things ever to have come out of the starwars universe, and more, I rank them just below fallout 1 and 2 in the best rpg's ever

another vote for KOTOR, 1 especially, the story of number 2 doesnt even compare to the story of number 1 (which was and still is why bioware is one of the best RPG makers, they spend loads of tought and time into the story) so I strongly reccomend Kotor 1.

I am not a fan of Star Wars at all either and I played through KOTOR1. Great game, just talking about it makes wanna go to Walmart and pick up KOTOR2, you should really check out KOTOR1 since you can find for cheap and play it through.

You could try Divine Divinity or its follow-up, Beyond Divinity. Actually, if you get BD they include DD. If you like a game setting where you can pick up things, combine them (i.e. alchemy), etc. then you might enjoy them. Didn't like Kotor at all.....felt like I was a passenger on a tightly scripted action adventure game on rails. Not a huge SW fan....maybe that has something to do with it.
