I do like MBNA and hate to leave them, but 5% is too much! I will keep my MBNA card, and just run up the $300 on this each year, then go back to the MBNA :)

Ditto...do places like Costco count as supermarkets?

I too am looking to build credit, don't particularly NEED a CC but I guess it's a good idea.

Mastercard or Visa on that Citibank Platinum one? Hmm. I do have a Visa Debit Check Card.

CostCo only accepts:
  • Cash
  • CostCo gift cards
  • Amex credit cards
  • Debit cards
  • VISA and MasterCard credit cards are NOT accepted

I believe CitiBank is phasing out Visa and all newer cards will be MC, so I doubt you'd have a choice.

I doubt it very much.
Right - it states that it's only places that are mostly supermarkets, just like you can't get 5% off at walmart, even though walmart sells gas.

OK, I'm gonna get it. Thanks dudes!

You can request it through their website.

BTW, you got hosed by MBNA. I don't think you can sign up anymore but they have a cash back program that gives back 10% in instant cash rebates until June '05.

I wish I had applied for that MBNA WorldPerks (or whatever it was called).

10% cash back gives me wood!

Question about the Fidelity card

Cardholders earn one and a half (1.5) points for every $100 in new net retail purchase transactions (purchases less credits, returns, and adjustments) charged to the card

Does that mean I have to spend $100 per transaction for the rewards to count. i.e I spend $50 at home depot, I do not get the points?

I just requested my first check last week when my billing cycle ended. I think I was at $54 or so. I wouldn't mind getting 2%/6%. It took me since about November to get that much. Another nice thing is the citi dividend merchants list. If you follow their links to shop at those merchants, you can get additional percentages back that are not included in your $300/yr. For example, I got a hot deal at CompUSA and clicked through their link for an extra 2% back.

No, you don't have to spend a minimum of $100 per transaction. Every transaction counts.

While we wait for Skoorb, I'll tell you what they did with me. The first card had a $12K limit and I've had that one for about a year and a half. They kept bombarding me through the mail with offers for other Citi cards and I eventually decided I'd take another Platinum Dividend Rewards card so I could double up on the $300/year limit.

Got the second card last week - $500 limit! So I called to explain how utterly useless that is and the robot-like CSR could only offer to request a credit line increase. Then she said she couldn't even do that, since the card was only a week old.

They did send me a letter a few days later saying that I could split my existing $12K limit between the two cards if I wanted.

It seems I'm stuck at $5k limit forever, even though other cc issuers will gladly give me more. That's ok though since I usually charge up to $2k and pay it off.

I've decided not to apply right now. AFAIK, after looking at the online app, they will ask for proof of my residency/immigration, etc. (since they have to verify information), and while we wait for our greencards I am of an infrequently known status right now--one I have zero interest in explaining to a dumby CSR, so I'll wait the next couple of months until our GCs come and then apply :)

Mine is at $4600. I run about $700/mo and pay it off. I think I only called for an increase once about 4 or 5 years ago when I was back at $500. The others have been automatic.

My wife has a cc which has automatically increased her limit at least 3 times.

It started at $1,500 and is now around $5,500

My MBNA card goes up about every 4 months. It started at 2500 and went up $300, then all times after that $500. The last bump was $1000 and now it's at $9300 :)

one of the few things that really blows about costco. turns my stomach to use my check visa debit card and not earn any rewards. I don't want an Amex just for costco.

Another thing is their prices and selection are not good.

one good thing about the citibank is that they have the merchant network.. they give more rebate on online store (like fatcash/ ebates) for example, target gift certificate is 7% rebate..

Does anyone happen to remember what the cash back rewards were for Chase Perfect Card, Discover Platinum, and American Express Cash Rewards?

Chase poerfect card is 1% back on all purchases and 3% back at any gas station for gas purchases. 6% back on gas for the forst 6 months.

Money appears on that month's statement. Ilike this card best because I don;t have to wait to accumulate a certain amount to get a check.

If you have lots of Hess gas stations get the Hess card from Chase because they give you 5% back for gas and 1% for other stuff.
