STi and invest the rest.

Seriously. It would be such a wise move.

$99.99 car with a $59,900 rocket strapped to it. Or would it be the other way around?

Does it have to be a car? He could get a 99-03 F150 SVT Lightning w/360-380HP and runs mid 13s stock (cooler the weather... the faster they go). Faster than most of the cars listed (except Z06 obviously) and can also tow and haul stuff.
Say hello to 12s with just an air filter, 4lb pulley, and chip.
That'll leave him with about $29-39K in his pocket for other mods... or a couple years worth of tires. ;)

If speed is all he wants an NSX is not something he wants. You could buy a viper for the same price.

If he's hell bent on spending that kind of cash on a car, a Z06 would be the way to go.

If he's smart, he'll get something like a used SS Camaro. 80% of the performance for 25% of the cost.

Get a recent year Corvette. Take the rest of the money and mod the hell out of it. It will then eat Vipers, Ferraris, practically anything you name, and still handle well.

My problem with the Camaro and Firebirds are that they are not built to the same quality that Corvettes are. The fit and finish is not as good and they are rattle traps. They seem to have paid a little more attention to the vette in this area. May not seem like a big deal, but the older it gets the more noisy it will be.

Some options:
Corvette Z06
BMW Z4
BMW Z3
Porche 911 Carrera (maybe)
Porche Boxter
Nissan 350Z
Ford Mustang Cobra R (good luck finding one)

You may be able to find some of these lightly used:
Viper
1 generation old 911 Turbo
Acrua NSX

If you REALLY want to have some fun:
Cobra replica or continuation car.

What about an SLK Kompressor? Don't know how the performance is on these, but I do know that I get passed almost every day by one, and that guy is flying in and out of traffic with almost no effort.

LOL.

Any abused car is going to rattle as it gets older. The fit and finish on the new Camaros and Firebirds is very good.

I heard people say that about Imports. Guess what? They rattle like hell too as they get older.

The point is, if something rattles - fix it. Duh!
