evolution, pocket the 25K
STi is faster ;)
only in a straight line, and only by .1 seconds
hence the ;)
and the "not straight line" issue has already been addressed time and again by simple alignment adjustments.

To be blunt, Subaru had problems with the 02 WRX's because buyers were thrashing the cars with its wonderfully controllable oversteer. So they re-aligned the car for understeer in 03 and after, including the STi. It's an easily correctable issue, but car review magazines (etc.) only use the factory settings.

neither is THAT fast... and neither has THAT much modding potential (takes out half the fun)... but for 60k, i've seen a used 911 turbo... but that's seeing it at wholesale retail price from a dealership :)

ummm, both are quite fast. Evo can run 4 seconds after modding. not sure about STi

'02 Z06 with less than 10K mi. can be had for under $40K.

Put $10K into mods and get a large life insurance policy.

4 seconds?? I assume you mean 0-60?

Look, let me tell you all something... people who think that acceleration is all that matters about the WRX, STi, and Evo have either (a) never really driven one, or (b) aren't real drivers to begin with.
Ever wanted a car that obeyed your every command? That you could brake, downshift, brake into a corner at high speed and unbelievably perfect apex and it was as though your thought was reality?
Bingo.
Not many cars are like that. And the power in those cars that are like that is only there to fulfill your commands, not wow your friends down the 1/4 mile. But then again, real cars have absolutely nothing to do with your friends. And that's because driving is a very personal thing.
