I think living with that would be a hell of a lot easier than 40-50 years of caring for a child that has the mental capacity of a 1 year old.

I would do it. Call me selfish, but life is short and I wouldn't want to spend the remainder of my short time on this planet taking care of a child with minimal chance of a normal life, just to have them left for social services to deal with after I'm gone. Thats no life for them, and thats not my idea of a rewarding life for myself.

I don't agree with abortion of healthy fetuses, but this is a totally different ballpark.

No, but how the hell can YOU be sure she won't and what gives YOU the right to say what she did is wrong. YOU are not the one risking to have a mentally unhealthy child.

It's so easy to be self-righteous.

My opinion, she just murdered her child. The thought of it sickens me. No doubt a difficult decision on her part. But I would have to say the wrong decision. The child deserved a chance at life.
Again: read up on Fragile X and then explain how that is "life".

A) I believe the child had a 20% chance of being "normal"
B) Are saying that a disabled/autistic/retarded child cannot have joy in life and bring joy to those around them? Is it a hard life, well duh, of course, but that doesn't mean we should extinguish that life and not give it a chance to experience that joy. Once you say that you can kill one life that is a "burden" to you, all life loses its intrinsic value and anyone can be disposed of because they are a burden on another or because their life is harder than that of a "normal" person.

a) Right, and an 80% chance of being a walking disaster.

b) What joy? Where is the joy? As before; read up on Fragile X before you pull any more posts out of your ass.
