What would you get - GH3 or Rock Band?

Rock Band owns. The drums are so incredibly fun it is ridiculous. The multiplay aspect when you got 3 or 4 together makes for loads of fun.

GH fell off when the developers of the first 2 left to make Rock Band. It just isn't the same anymore and the note charts are pretty bad. Sometimes so bad that they don't even follow the music.
 
I'd say, if you are the only one, GH3 will probably be better. However, if you like the notion of drums and enjoy the guitar part, Rock Band is fun. I play Rock Band more by myself than with others, just because there isn't always enough people (or any people). And having all the parts there is fun for when people are over and would like to play.
 
I got both. Given GH3 as a gift, bought RB standalone, both for 360. I haven't played GH3 yet, but I've used the GH3 guitar to beat RB on medium lead guitar. I thought RB had a better set list than GH3, but I'll play GH3 next week.
 
Rock Band is more fun while Guitar Hero is more challenging. A few months ago it was like pulling teeth trying to get the neighbors over for a Wii or Halo session, now I practically have to assign them nights of the week they're allowed to visit. The wives like it as much as the husbands, particularly when "Brass in Pocket" comes up on the playlist (BlackFlag really called that one when it was released).

Basically, if you have friends, GET ROCK BAND.
 
I'm sorry guys look at the facts. Guitar Hero had quality gameplay with alot put into one instrument. Rock Bands pulls that loosely across 3 or 4 instruments, introducing easy and lame gameplay.
 
Rock Band and GH3 are damn near exactly the same in single player mode gameplay wise, and rock band has a much better multiplayer side as well as better functioning online play. RB doesn't have as hard of songs guitar wise, but the drums are incredibly fun and really damn challenging. But I never feel like I've hit a major barrier that I know I can't pass for months unlike GH.

You can only play 2 players on GH, but up to 4 on RB. RB also has a lot more downloadable songs for it and they keep being released on time. For whatever reason GH has had a lot of trouble releasing new songs.

I'll gladly look at the facts, but I can't seem to find anything you've said that isn't completely subjective.

Easier does not necessarily mean "lame gameplay". You're not talking to a GH virgin, I've beaten GH2 on Expert and have "Raining Blood" and "One" left on GH3. I've FCed most Hard songs and enough Expert songs on each. I've run with the scorehero.com crowd, as have many of the other people here. I do enjoy the challenge.

In my opinion, in terms of pure fun, there is NOTHING in any of the Guitar Hero modes that comes anywhere close to having a room full of people rotating in and out of Rock Band.

All that said, I'll very happily continue to play both series, provided Activision gets its act together and stops screwing over its own customers with the guitar compatibility issue.
 
Rock Band. GH3 is just like "see how hard we can make this? it's hard! love us!" while Rock Band is like "get a group together and rock out and have fun"
 
I have a lot of friends online who have succumbed to the Rock Band craze. I don't get it personally, but the consensus seems to be that if you're playing alone, GH3 is best, if you have friends, RB is the better option.

Personally, I'll be glad when this whole "standing in front of my TV pushing multi-colored buttons on an overpriced Fisher Price toy" thing wears off sooner than later.
 
I don't get why some people say GH if you are playing alone. The style of the solo campaigns is basically exactly the same on both.

Considering the OP of this thread included "Let's forget about the difference in price", you have a point. Obviously, I'm a Rock Band multiplayer proponent, but I've enjoyed playing the drums and singing solo tours while by myself just fine.

My opinion is that if you're only interested in playing challenging guitar by yourself, then GH3 may be the better choice. However, if you have any interest in drums/singing or have friends to play with, it really becomes no contest in Rock Band's favor.

I have to add, though, there are countless threads around the interwebs arguing over whether GH2 or GH3 is superior. I'm on the GH2 side.
 
Well I finally got to play Rock Band for the first time on Friday night. And after that I think I have to give the nod to Rock Band.

This is a console forum. Rockband/Guitar Hero is nothing more than an extension of a console controller in a different shape.

Playing any video game is nothing more than pushing colored buttons in front of a TV when you boil it down to a basic level.
 
RockBand is the most fun I've had on a console, ever.

My roommates and I have people over at least 4-5 times a week and Rock Band always comes up by the end of the night. I have played the drums for about 8 years, so it came naturally.

I could play for hours on end just because of the fun factor. But hey, I won't lie, I love to show off -- RockBand makes it easy if you can play drums.
