What would you do with some kind of authority on this forum?

Forums like this one are losing users all the time to social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc). To encourage forum activity, I'd discourage locking any thread except those with racist content or those encouraging illegal activities. Of course, spam would be outright deleted.


What would you do? (other than reinstating specific banned users -- I know some of you are going to say that)

Dubious. Most of us wouldn't be here if we cared that much about social media. You can argue that they're growing while we aren't, but that's not the same thing as them growing at our expense.

Ah. Yes. Eliminating half the sub-forums would be a priority for me.

Also, necro threads would live until they die on their own.

Parody threads would be encouraged. If it's dumb, let it die. If the OT forum gets flooded with them, I care not. That's user activity.

10k is just one of the recommendations. Admins can invite you there if they want. TFP still posts there.

Activity on forums like this one has steadily declined for many years now. It's almost surely due to social media in large part.

I was once an admin on the NationStates equivalent to the titty-feelie place, and the only use of power I displayed was in editing a post that had an embedded gif of some anime chick blasting an energy beam from her vagina so that it was just a link (I think we were being posted by a website that might not permit it). People complained about my abuse of powers and I felt really guilty. :'(

I'd be totally hands-off without telling people that I was not enforcing any rules, and just watch as people gradually push boundaries.

Eliminate the whole NSFW thing. Any idiots who have time to browse social sites while at work, can take responsibility for their own selves. I'd also drop kick the thought police who think locking threads due to wrong forum or, posting while impaired is more important then helping. In general, anyone who thinks policy is more important than individuals can go to hell.

With the forum dying down, I'd reduce the number of subforums.
