Ok, right now, I live near Santa Cruz, CA. My girlfriend lives 3 hours away, in Sacramento. Recently, I've been accepted to California State University, Sacramento, as a transfer student. I will be moving to Scramento in January.
Now, I have 2 basic choices:
1) Live on campus in a dorm room
2) Live off campus, in an apartment, with my girlfriend.
Ok, here's the story: Tuition and rent are not cheap, and I have no job in Sacramento. My parents, however, are willing to help me as much as they can. My parents dont approve of me moving in with my girlfriend though, so if I live with her, I get less money (they'll cover tuition, but that's it). Living off campus would probably cost me about $1000/monthy (not including school expenses). Now, I don't know if I could afford this, I'll have to get a job ASAP and see how much I can make.
If I live on campus, most of my expenses would be covered. However, I'd have to share a tiny room with somone else. Likely an 18 year old freshman (I'm a 20 year old transfer student). I'd share a bathroom with 30 guys. I'd park my car who knows where (they do have parking, but I dont trust college students around my car). There are plusses to on campus housing too, however - I wouldn't have to commute, I save more money, etc.
If I live with my girlfriend - well you see the obvious benefit in living arrangements
However, I dont know if we can afford it, and I'd have to commute to school.
Either way, I'd have to find an apartment (with my girlfriend) by summer, since that's whenthe dorms close.
What would you do? Oh, and I'm a comp. Sci. major.
