What would you do if....

So my girlfriend woke me up last night about midnight to tell me that she heard loud glass breaking outside of our house. I asked her "how loud" she said "Very loud, like someone just broken into your car."

Unfortunately, from our upstairs window you can't get a great shot of the car, so I decided to go take a look outside.

I grabbed my Glock 19 and proceeded outside (checking the front door through the window first to see if anyone was there)

I slowly walked outside, to see my car safe and my idiot drunk neighbor throwing Corona bottles into the recycle bin, smashing them, which in my Cul-de-sac echo'd so loudly it sounded like a car being broken into. I had the glock at my side and he couldn't see it behind my baggy shorts (I didn't want to scare him).

Hindsight being 20/20, I probably should've just observed the best I could from inside the house, and if I really saw someone breaking in, call the police.

What would you have done?

If I heard glass breaking in the middle of the night I would probably be a little cautious myself. Can't say that I would have done things differently.

It's one thing if someone breaks into your house, but I think the consequences are not in your favor if you shoot someone breaking into your car

You don't necessarily need to shoot them, just scare them off. 😉

cant do that here in az, my buddy shot at two guys that broke into his baja (wtf, why?) and the cops took him to jail lol. he can protect himself, but in that particular instance there was no bodily threat. he yelled, they cussed at him so he shot and missed... they ran, he fired a couple more at them and the cops got there. he got arrested for brandishing a weap, discharge in city limits. if they had advanced on him, he could have taken them out no problem.

i went outside one time to investigate a noise and saw a couple of doods messing with my wing windows one time, rocked that slide back and told them i saw them. they about tripped over themselves trying to run away. that sound alone is enough to instill enough fear, no reason to shoot. unless they decide they want a fight.
