What would you have done?

post pic of my girlfriend along with the OP

I just told you have weapons at my house and you want me to post pictures of my girlfriend who has access to these weapons and who really hates me posting pictures of her online.

Bad idea.

bad idea for you... but great for us. It is said that the sacrifice of one outweighs the sacrifice of many. You will not be forgotten for this.

LOL.

Ok Picture added in the first post. Enjoy.

take that zipper down a couple notches, then repost pic.

LOL.....once I figure out how to get the zipper down, I'll make sure to take pictures. 🙂

It's one thing if someone breaks into your house, but I think the consequences are not in your favor if you shoot someone breaking into your car

Unless you live in Texas. Ah, I love TX gun laws ...

Cool story. I would have inspected the scenario first than run out with a gun. Sneak Attack ftw! Thanks for the pic. 🙂

not grab my gun and go into the street.

Look from my house, and if someone IS going at my car, I would call the police, THEN run out guns firing and all.

Last time someone was awakened by sounds of damage there was a fire in the apartment next door. I would go out and see what's going on with a crowbar or something.

Depends on the state. Some places you're screwed if you shoot a guy over a car and other places you're allowed to use deadly force to protect your property. Of course it's good to know which it is in advance.

I'd get up and get ready to investigate, then I would realize that I don't own a car and go back to sleep.

I'd call the police and probably throw stuff at him from inside the house if I know for sure what is going on (ex: clear view). Maybe I'd run out with a weapon but think I'd just follow the 911 instructions which would probably tell me to stay inside.

Another option would be to try and restrain him somehow.

I'd also get a bunch of pictures and video of him performing the crime. This is also why when I get my new house, I need to fix the insulation in the attic and at same time I want to install cameras that oversee my yard and driveway. Video evidence pwns.

More or less exactly what you did.

I'd grab my cell and prep 911 on it, grab my flashlight and keep my hand on my gun (Taurus PT140). Then I'd go to investigate.

Aren't you allowed to detain if you see a crime being commited to you or your property? Isn't that the line? You can detain only or you can shoot depending on state. Once the perp makes a move towards you of course then you can shoot away.

The following is highly dependent upon which state you're in.

Going PURELY by the written law you can use deadly force to stop ANY felony in progress. However, bleeding-heart judges have corrupted the written law and now will not allow that. They still allow detention, but it's a fine line on how much force you can use or even threaten.

You can generally only use a weapon to defend against perceived imminent harm. Except on my own private property I won't even draw unless I think there is likelihood of harm.

Yep, that's what I thought too.

For the record, you should've shot the ***** then broke his friend's skull on the sidewalk.

WHITE POWA!

* In all seriousness though, best movie ever.

EDIT: They blank out the N word on these forums?

Negative cool points for AnandTech.

I would not go outside with the gun for a couple of reasons:
1)Going out with gun in hand could put you behind bars if you don't do it exactly right. Even that is no guarantee.
2) You don't see anyone, but maybe they see your gun. Great reason to break into your home when you are gone.
3) There is an aspect of premeditation in grabbing a gun you are not wearing. That is an uphill battle you will have to fight in court if the shit hits the fan.

My understanding of proper self defense use of a gun is, they don't see it until it is too late for them. Don't menace with it, threaten with it, pretend you are 5-Oh. Get it out and shoot to kill someone who is about to do you or your family harm. Otherwise, keep it out of sight.

Meh, I have yet to have my vehicle broken into, so maybe I am jaded, but I figure it is fate or whatever. Most of my cars have so little in them that they are not worth breaking in to. This changed when I spent $400 in audio upgrades for my Jeep, but I still don't have any subs or stupid crap like that, so I think the thieves will be confused by my head unit with a jump drive sticking out of it. Not to mention my windows are muddy most of the time. (It is sacrilegious to wash a Jeep, especially if you live in the desert)

I usually leave my Cherokee unlocked in the driveway. A couple of weeks ago I went out to the Jeep, and somebody had taken a bunch of stuff from the center console, and put it on the drivers seat. As near as I can tell nothing was taken. I had 2 mp3 players, coins in the cup holder. RYO tobacco and papers, and CDs in the back seat; Nothing was gone :^? I half wondered if I did that and forgot, but I know I didn't.

That beat my previous strange break in when somebody got into my VW Thing and selectively stole some cassettes. They could have easily carried them all away since they were in a portable carrier, but they just took the ones they wanted :^D

So my girlfriend woke me up last night about midnight to tell me that she heard loud glass breaking outside of our house. I asked her "how loud" she said "Very loud, like someone just broken into your car."

Unfortunately, from our upstairs window you can't get a great shot of the car, so I decided to go take a look outside.

I grabbed my Glock 19 and proceeded outside (checking the front door through the window first to see if anyone was there)

I slowly walked outside, to see my car safe and my idiot drunk neighbor throwing Corona bottles into the recycle bin, smashing them, which in my Cul-de-sac echo'd so loudly it sounded like a car being broken into. I had the glock at my side and he couldn't see it behind my baggy shorts (I didn't want to scare him).

Hindsight being 20/20, I probably should've just observed the best I could from inside the house, and if I really saw someone breaking in, call the police.

What would you have done?

***PIC of GF for all you pervs***

WTF.... wait, your American its against the law not to own a gun.

:camera:Of your Gf, tell her to unzip that hoodie a bit.
