What would you do if you were in this situation?

I had a very flustering experience at a gas station today. I filled up my tank with regular unleaded which came to about $15. I went to pay inside only to find out they didn't take credit card. I had either credit card or only $6.00 in cash. No other method of payment and I was unable to pay for gas. It didn't help at all if not aggrivated the situation that my boyfriend was with me since he didn't have wallet with him since we were staying at my place and decided to get some food then we stopped by gas station on our way home. I couldn't get a hold of my parents and the guy at the gas station wasn't going to let me leave my driver's license there so I can come and pay it the following day. This is the first time something like this happened to me and I sooo panicked, cuz I didn't know what to do. I finally asked the guy next to us if I could borrow $9 from him. He gave me this no look thinking we were trying to rip him off, but after telling him the whole situation and panicky look on me, he was nice enough to not only let me borrow it but told us he could see we are really genuine and paid the balance. I told him I was going to mail $10 to him. To my surprise he told us not to worry about it... I was so relieved that he saved my ass. He could have very well said no and I certainly appreciate nice people like that. I feel kind of bad for having that guy pay $9 for me and I made a fool of my self with my boyfriend standing right there :( :( I feel like such an idiot.

Anything like this happened to you at a gas station after you filled up or at a restaurant after you ate the food? How would you have handled it?

Around here, all gas stations let you pay at the pump with CC

Nothing like that has happend to me yet (knock on wood :D) , but given the info you posted, i would have tried to get your boyfriend (since its your car) to stay at the desk with the "jackass" and run to an ATM and make a quick with draw. Beyond that, I dont know.

I woulda left my boyfriend there and picked up a new one from ATOT. Shouldn't be all that hard. jk.

I've always been able to pay with a cc, and I used to keep a 20 in the car b4 it died on me. That reminds me tho...I wonder if I left it there.

<< Oh.alright.....I'm confused. :p >>

Its okay. For now I'm talking about how I made a fool out of myself, if anyone have done it and how they would deal with it and not about my personal life. Not in this thread at least.

Yeah actually same thing happened to me a while ago, some woman had found out that her credit card wasn't accepted by the gas place, and she only had like $5 on a $20 fill, so I gave her $15 just cause it is good to do nice things for people.

what about an ATM? Just about ever Gas station around here has an ATM. I would have left the guy my liscense number, a credit card, actual dl and the person I was with to go find an ATM. What ever happeend to paying before you put the gas in...that's the way you do it around here

Well since you are asking.........

Your b/f should be the most embarrassed, what kind of guy goes running around without a wallet, especially if he is taking his g/f somewhere to get something to eat? He should have also been the one trying to rectify the situation, by HIM asking the guy if you all could borrow a few bucks, or asking for the manager of the station so something could be worked out. What kind of guy stands there, while his g/f begs strangers for cash? I'm not too impressed.

this guy, at least that one store

Thanks for the warning. I've never been to a gas station that didn't take CC but that's probably because I always try to fill up near my place or at stations that I know accept credit cards. But that guy was really decent to have paid your balance.

My brother had a similar thing. He went to get some gas on his way home from work one morning. He didnt have his cards or enough cash. He's a paramedic so he doesnt take his card to work and only takes a small amount of change. The guy gave him a form to fill in and said that he must come back within 24 hours to pay it or they will pass on the details to the cops.

I dont use ARCO because of that.. For one I dont carry cash that often, and two if you use the ATM they charge you a quarter for the convenience.. so much for "arco's Quick Pay".. I can get in and out faster using the regular method of swiping my card at teh station where I am filling up.
I hate arco.. many a time they have the lowest price, but because they charge you a quarter that 1 cent differnce doesnt count cause you paid 25 cents for the service of using an ATM.

By the way I thought you were a guy too.. never realised you were a woman.. so before i forget .. PICS???

Well you were right the first time, because I'm a guy.

They only charge you 25cents for ATM? They did have an ATM machine inside the store and it said it charges $1.50 for non-keybank customers drawing cash. I can't use ATM, because I haven't bothered to get the PIN# from my parents.

I thought Jerboy was a girl, not from any hard evidence, just from snippets (probably saying b/f threw me off, never even thought otherwise) never mind, I'm going to bed.

Sorry Jerboy, my post makes no sense now, it made more sense way back when I thought you were a female.
