I've never thought about putting a limit on what I spent on a date (first or otherwise). I'd certainly offer to pay for a first date (and every other date). If a woman insists on Dutch, I'll offer two more times and then give up. It doesn't mean a lot to me one way or another.

A first date with someone completely new is gonna be coffee or lunch/dinner. Someplace we can talk and get to know one another as potential romantic partners. I wouldn't take a first date to some stuffy place that'll run $80 a plate. I prefer more relaxed... I'd say that's gonna put me in the $40 to $60 range for the whole thing.

If it's someone I already know, it might still be dinner... or it might be something more adventurous, outdoorsy, amusement park, event, etc. The budget wouldn't be something that I'd consider.

BINGO!

Thats the only way to do it.

agreed. besides, if shes comfortable with you dropping a bunch of cash on the first date, that should throw up a red flag.

just use the $40 or less guideline.. less is better. And remember the 3 strikes and you're out rule (tom Leykis) If she doesn't put out by the 3rd date: "Dump that Bitch!"

There's' no limit really, because what happens if I'm in the mood for something a little upscale? conversely, what if I want to take her down to one of those remade olde school soda shoppes?

whoever said it depends on where you are in your life is the right answer.

I could do $20 in college but one can do more the older they get and women that are older sometimes do expect more.

I think the most I have spent on a first date was $40 but I would go higher if need be. I do prefer dutch cause that creates a much more likelly possibility of it working out.

best date ever:
1. watch sunset from some outlook in town
2. go to sams club/costco...eat samples from frozen food isle
3. go to baskin robins..."taste test" as many of the 31 flavors as they let ya

Movie, dinner, desert...only spend the cost of gas....unless you can hoof it, which works out even better cause then you can fit in the hand holding and walking along under the stars
Every girl I've suggested this to has loved the idea and thought it was better than a lot of the dates they've been on, a lot more creative and a lot more "romantic"...when all I'm thinking is I just saved $50 :D

Geez, thats so damn stingy. I dont know if I would have the balls to try that. That's awesome though that they liked the idea.

No limit. It really doesn't matter what you do, but who you do it with. You can find lots of things to do that are inexpensive and fun/interesting.

*cues scene from Half Baked where Dave Chappelle's character goes on his first date with Mary Jane*

Also, I think it's so weird when couples split the check in half or split it at all. It's so impersonal; however, I'm not saying that I don't pay my way. For example, if the guy pays for dinner, then i'll pay for the movies and snacks, etc. It's only fair.

Cheers.
