Actually I left AMD about 2 years ago. At the time the 2.4 ghz intel was a tad cheaper than anything AMD had to offer, and ran cooler. So I went with Intel.
Now since I already have a motherboard to support it I'm going to get an Intel 3.4 ghz when I upgrade soon.
I'll probably upgrade in a year or two again, then we'll see where AMD is at. If the 64's are still on top then I'll go with that, if not I'll stick with Intel.

Intel's ONLY problem is it's $
their performance sucks compared to AMD as well, but if the price reflected that, might be a worthy option.

I went back to Intel in 2003, and have been happy ever since. I am not a gamer - just graphics and work. The issue for me was stability. Since I have switched I have never had a lockup, BSOD, or any malfunction I did not cause from the keyboard. I was an AMD user for 7 years before that.

actually...I agree with this more. I love AMD, but right now my main rig is a $400 Dell 4600 with a 2.8ghz p4 in it. I got a warranty, 7200rpm 80g Seagate, and 512mb ddr333 for that price. It works, it's great, it's wicked quiet, I love it. The price/performance level was just right for the time I was buying (last May I think).
I'm not particularly a fanboy, but I do prefer AMD because I like their bang-for-the-buck. The Dell happened to be just what I was looking for, so I jumped.
We still have a 1.2 Gig Tulatin Core PIII (Celeron) running. It was a great deal in its day. Havent seen as good a deal from Intel Since. It still runs great, but my 1.2 Gig Athlon bit the dust.
I would switch to Intel if they ever came out with a product which is better than the equivilent AMD counterpart. I chose my 3400+ because it out performs the 3.4Ghz in gaming. If it were the other way around, id go 3.4GHz. Money wouldnt be an issue, as long as its not priced overly high.

I've been an exclusive AMD User since the k6-2. The only way I'd switch to Intel is if AMD began charging very high $$ for their cpus and Intel were really cheap. Or perhaps AMD had 70%+ of the Market and Intel was the only competitior holding back a totally dominant Monopoly.

a little OT since i am - by definition - an "intel" guy . . . but every time i go to order AMD, i can get a cheaper equivalent system from Intel . . . weird timing . . .
last time - THIS FEbruary, i got a 2.80c (o/c'd to 3.31ghz) instead of the a64 3000 because it was cheaper . . . at the time i posted here NO one could configure an Athlon system to give better bang-for-buck . . .
i'd go for AMD in a heartbeat . . . . but i keep getting cheap and powerful intel systems . . . time before that was a 1.2Ghz TUALATIN Celeron (a beast of a Celeron) to 1.5/1.6Ghz and before that was a Coppermine 600 at 800Mhz and a Celeron 300 . . . sigh.

If intel would stop its speed increases for a while ad consider improving on what they have like what AMD does. Also, to price their cpus correctly.
When it has the better price/performance ratio. I DO have a Pentium M Laptop so its not really going back I just try to choose the best CPU for the platform that fits my piticular needs.
My desktop is mostly used for gaming so the A64 is best for me. I use it for other things sure but not anything that needs the horse power.
My laptop I like thin, light, and mobile so the Pentium M is the best choice there.
