What would happen is that people would still ask this friggin question whenever a hurricane was around.

An asteroid a mile wide MIGHT disrupt one if it collided with the earth at 30 miles a second.

BTW, that's a much bigger BOOM! than a nuke.

no sh1t and alot scarrier

Says you. I've been waiting for one for years.

I would think that it would tend to disrupt the hurricane, at least temporarily, by derailing the circular motion at the center. Even if it did stop the hurricane, it'd be like popping your zits with a .44 magnum- you get to trade tempoary destruction for a long half-life- but I would expect it to disrupt the hurricane and perhaps change it back to a tropical depression (which might respawn into another hurricane- I don't know all that much about meteorology, just one long dull class in college)

radiation everywhere the storm went afterwards?

lol, but I actually expect there wouldn't be a lot of storm left....

That's like throwing a baby in front of a speeding train to stop it....

Only thing it would do is spread radioactivity wherever it went
As opposed to spreading bits of baby wherever it went.

if heat is powering the hurricane and makes it stronger cant we just throw a lot of liguid nitrogen or something in the water to weaken it??

after all, when you see how big an area a hurrican covers, would the nuke be able to generate enough wavefront to disrupt it completely?

personally, i reckon it couldnt stop the largest hurricanes......but possibly the smaller ones.....

mebbe im wrong...

who knows......who cares...like Bush is dumb enough to nuke Rita.....

mebbe i shouldnt say that...lol

Why would a wavefront disrupt a hurricane?

Funny, Canadians and Brits asking why we don't "nuke" a hurricane -- yet calling our President dumb. POT KETTLE. :p

Someone called into to this hurricane expert on my local tv station Wed night and asked why we couldn't just nuke the hurricane.

I think we should make a giant ducted fan turbine that takes the air in and forces it back on itself, therefore killing the spinning motion. And then when we are done with the turbine we can nuke it just for fun.

I wouldn't think it would effect it, It might add to the debree that is being thrown around by the hurricane, but really all you would do is kick up some sand, water, and maybe pollute some air and water.

Imagine chasing a train and grabbing on the rail of the caboose using your feet to slow down the train. That won't do sh!t. Ditto for a nuke in a cane. It's a silly idea and must come to an end now. Even Rush on EIB net is talking about this.

Why would a wavefront disrupt a hurricane?

sorry, by wavefront i meant the pressurewave from the explosion, not a tsunami type wave..........and just in case you need it explaining further, i mean that the sheer pressure generated by the blast could be enough to disrupt the circular flow of the hurrican enough to disband it.......

oh and as for calling your head honcho dumb.......er, the guy makes up words on the spot, on a regular basis......need any more?....lol

oh and i havnt asked why dont you nuke the hurricane, i was commenting on an already raised subject....bleah....

So the shockwave wouldn't effect the water vapor in the air (after all vaporize = to convert to vapor and you can not make vapor a vapor because it is already a vapor). But the shockwave would vaporize water particles. The particles could condensate again and then actually strengthen the hurricane or become scattered and weaken it. Granted, I am not a meteorologist so what I say might be totally wrong.

Along those lines, hurricanes gain energy via heat/warm ocean water.....perhaps introducing even more heat (on a nuclear scale) to a hurricane would be a horrible idea.

Maybe it'd turn Rita into the next "great big global storm" ala Jupiter's eye.....though Jupiter's eye alone is like 10x the size of earth.

Fission. Fission.

And like I said in the other thread...a small thunderstorm has the power of about 40 1950 era nukes. Hurricane? Dun even think about it.

Not Fission. FUSION.

Fission bombs are small potatos compared to a Fusion bomb (also known as a Hydrogen Bomb)
