When you are playing a game it is actually working totally off of the HD. They just make you put the CD in so you can't install the game and play it in more than one PC at a time. To prove this, you can copy yor CD on your HD and it should play fine. You didn't answer the first question. Do you have your CD-ROM drive hooked to your sound card with an audio link. Your CD-ROMs can function without this, but you'll run into the problem that you are having now. You can also set your PC to transfer the audio over your IDE cables, but I don't know where the setting is since most PCs have it already enabled.

On your burned CD, what format was the music in?

Need some more info, since this is starting to sound like a software issue. What OS are you running, what are you using to play music? Does it have a setting where you can use analog or digital?

found part of the problem, went under control panel then multimedia properties then to cdrom drive for playing music and enabled digital
cd audio for this device.would only let me enable it for one drive, when i try to enable it for the cdrom drive it's grayed out.i guess it's just a windows thing.thanks for the help
