a cdrom to have no sound?i can play a game disk and it runs fine with the sound and all but when i try a music cd the media player comes up and the song runs but with no sound, same thing in the burner.tried downloaded winamp and same problem no sound, sound workes fine with everything else except music cds.i even reinstaled windows any ideas?

When you are playing a game it is actually working totally off of the HD. They just make you put the CD in so you can't install the game and play it in more than one PC at a time. To prove this, you can copy yor CD on your HD and it should play fine. You didn't answer the first question. Do you have your CD-ROM drive hooked to your sound card with an audio link. Your CD-ROMs can function without this, but you'll run into the problem that you are having now. You can also set your PC to transfer the audio over your IDE cables, but I don't know where the setting is since most PCs have it already enabled.

the audio cables are connected to the motherboard, onboard sound.i just tried a cd i burnt with music on it and worked fine.tried 2 differant bought cds and no sound.i built this pc for someone else and after a month they come back and say its not working, what could have they screwed up to do this, first time for me.

On your burned CD, what format was the music in?

Need some more info, since this is starting to sound like a software issue. What OS are you running, what are you using to play music? Does it have a setting where you can use analog or digital?

the burnt cd was a cd that i downloaded music and other files on when i explore the cd and play a song it workes fine, just tried a video cd with music and that worked to.just seems to be music cds.reinstalled winamp and still the same.his daughter was trying to burn something and thats when they noticed yhere was no sound.i removed the sony cd extream and instaled adaptec cd creator and same
thing,it's win 98se.tried playing it on windowes media player also.in winamp i have all files and audio cds enabled.the music cds where mp3 when i burnt them.

found part of the problem, went under control panel then multimedia properties then to cdrom drive for playing music and enabled digital
cd audio for this device.would only let me enable it for one drive, when i try to enable it for the cdrom drive it's grayed out.i guess it's just a windows thing.thanks for the help
