What would be a good party name for...

I wanted to restart the Federalist party but I think some group already took that name. :|

So here's how I would approach politics:

- Keep the budget trim. I mean, bare bones, nothing extra, trimmed.
- Keep taxes as low and simple as possible, hopefully via a trim budget.
- Keep laws as few and simple as possible.
- Keep the social programs to a minimum.

So the federal government would be as small as possible. Keep most of the power in the hands of the States.

How does "Minimalist" sound as a party name?

The Apathy Party.

Strongpoints:

1) You never start wars -- too much trouble.

2) You never quite get around to collecting any taxes.

3) Special interests keep trying to influence you, but you keep blowing them off to play video games instead.

4) Dissipate constantly sends you long, involved postion statements and strirring manifestos, but there are no pictures or porn, so you don't read them.

5) You never pander to idiots - Why bother?

And last but not least:

6) You don't run for reelection!

You motto? Ap - athy is better than none!

Apathy party sounds better than the current form of government...:(

Plus if it were to get votes from non-voters, it would have won!!

I would call it the United States of America before the Socialists came into power in the '30s.

Wow, I believe the country at that time was still reeling from the depression. Don't think he wants that...

You may be right, but if the socialists were responsible at the beginning, everyone in government from both sides of the aisle quickly jumped on this with both feet. It was like a light switch suddenly went on in their heads, and we haven't been libertarian since.

I'm sure you just hate that FDR, a democrat, is widely considered the best president in United States History.

His work helped prevent huge depressions from happening again.

I would say this is no more true than any assertion that what GW has done has made it so a 9/11 will never happen again.

Perhaps the greatest socialist program of all time directly fueled America's unheralded post war prosperity and was the key force behind that generation having the strongest middle class ever seen, before or since, on the face of this Earth.

It was the GI bill.

Read your history. The GI bill enabled so many of that generation to go to college and to own a home, many of whom would have never otherwise been able to do either. That was the foundation of their unprecedented economic success.

Yay Socialism!

Pretty much. Nothing wrong with a little socialism. Just about every american success story benefited from it starting with public education giving us massive literacy and opportunities. To massive opportunity programs like SBA for smart budding entrepreneurs. My parents literally came to USA with $90 and are millionaires today.. immpossible under cast euro system from whence they came where faimly name got loans and university admissions and jobs.

My only beef with the current system is we don't want to pay for what we get so we run up deficiets which gives us less to spend in future... progressivly we are getting back less than we pay in taxes and ever running up more debt commitments. We really need a balanced budget amendment which I think would fix about 90% of our problems and seriously cause people to reflect on policy. The other thing is never give anything for free which would fix the other 10%... must be showing work/progress to get a government check.
