Every now and then people talk about the end of the world...I just don't get it. Here's a poll, you guys have earned it.
 
Whether one species loses the ability to percieve matter or goes extinct will never define when "the world" ends. If you mean planet earth, your question is easily answered. The world will end when the sun expands and dies.

If you mean people, the answer is probably superdisease pandemic or asteroid.
 
I don't think a disease will completely wipe out humanity. Even the most deadly diseases don't kill 100%. 1% of 6 billion is plenty.

Probably zombies, lol.
 
..I don't think there will be an out and out "end" unless something comes flying in from space. Otherwise I suspect disease outbreaks will occur largely due to international flight and terror.
 
I think it will be a Genetic Famine.

Some European company tested a genetically modified crop in India that failed horribly, forcing thousands of farmers into poverty (many of them committing suicide). Not only did the crop fail, but it left no re-plantable seed.

Imagine another 50 years, and all our agriculture is based on genetically modified crops. Then 1 year, something happens to make all crops in the world fail.

It would cause a panic/riots for organic food, massive inflation - the economy will completely collapse. Lesser countries will starve to death and start war.
