if money is a issue then i would wait. a monitor will last longer and will be with you through more computers then a video card will. also keep in mind not to go too big or else you'll be spend more money on a more powerful card to run your games on it.
my Dell 24" wasn't by choice, it was a xmas gift from my gf. i was planning on getting Dell's 2007FPW (same res as 22") since then i wouldn't have to upgrade as soon and keep my X1900XT256 for another 6mos or so. but eh, i'm happy with my 24"
i now have a 8800GTS 640 and couldn't be happier.
