That's pretty...um...lame. ;)

Do you know why they got rid of it?
Because they moved on, --alt-preset extreme 0wnz j00!

Viisit www.hydrogenaudio.org for a real explanation :)

And DannyLove unless you're Skoorbing us a search of "mp3" and/or "ripper" here and in Off-topic will show you the 1,023 earlier threads discussing this question.

(ed) or for 0 loss in quality, switch to FLAC lossless, only 300 MB per CD! ;)

I found that the best, all-in-one converter, is dbpoweramp.

It's free, it's VERY good, and it can do all sorts of formats, including Ogg and FLAC... and it has a lot of quality options. It's the only thing I use right now - especially since you can integrate it with Windows - you right-click on a file and have the option to convert it to whatever you want...

--r3mix is old and crappy. the presets, originally the dibrom settings went further on the testing of switches and made the best quality transparent bit saving encodes possible. Notice, BEST bit saving transparent encode. Dibrom was so gracious in his work, he didn't want his name attached to the presets, hence, --alt-preset xxx.

EAC to rip and encode
LAME392 standard

edt -- if --r3mix sounds fine to you, then by all means stick with it. If you don't think or hear a difference then why does it matter? Perhaps the differences are between a 1 gig cpu and 1.2 gig cpu. Most day to day tasks and users can't tell the bump 200mhz. dunno.

let EAC encode for you, no need for RazorLAME. Also, if you rip and encode with EAC in one shot, it will tag for you. Or not, if you don't want it to tag for you.

If you have alot of wav's that you wish to encode, I would use a program called RazorLAME.

For just basic work, I use EAC to rip, and LAME to encode. For intermediate work, I have found that the latest version of MusicMatch Jukebox works pretty good. When I want to put in some serious work, I use either Cool Edit Pro 2.0 or SONAR 2.2 XL. I've just picked up Ahead's (Nero Burning Rom) new MPEG-4/AAC plug-in. I haven't had time to try it yet, but if the specs fit, it should be HOT! I also like mp3PRO. The old mp3 standard may be getting a little long-in-the-tooth :D jellyjams
