Applied for two just out of highschool. Got two credit cards - each with $1000 limits. Of course my limits now are far, far above that.

Cap 1 $300... 5+ years later and it's STILL $300, they refuse to raise it, it's ok tho I never use it ever, it has like a 23% APR. I have Amex Blue and Chase Perfectcard that I use instead for rewards and have much better APR. Only reason my cap 1 is still open is it's my oldest account and has a flawless record, so it helps out my credit score.

Got my first one 5 months back, started at $500, doubled after 4 months to $1000.

Now I just have to convince them to increase it to $5k in a few months. I like to buy and sell in large quantities.

student cards dont require such things, if you are really hard up you can get a secured card to build some credit history and then switch over to an unsecured card at the earliest possible time.
