student cards dont require such things, if you are really hard up you can get a secured card to build some credit history and then switch over to an unsecured card at the earliest possible time.

Weird, that's what I had always thought, but I got denied for a college card. :Q
I've thought about secured but I believe it takes 12-18 months or so to be able to switch to a real card, and that kinda sucks.
