What was the first thing you did on a computer?

The first computer thread got me thinking about what was the first thing I used a computer for.

The first time I sat in front of a computer was after school in highschool. Some friends were in the computer lab (Apple IIs) and I stopped in to say hi. They were programming some cool graphics stuff in BASIC so I asked how they did that. A guy explained how his code worked, flipping back and forth between the code and the graphics output. I watched him for a few minutes and then sat down and tried writing a similar program on the machine next to his. It worked, eventually. That was that.

Looking back on it now it seems strange that the very first thing I did on a computer was program, not word process, play a game, or use a spreadsheet.

What was your first time like?

played the game "Styx"

Yes, a game called Styx

I think it was this one...but its tough to tell...they all looks similar back then...a speedy 6 mhz

My first time was on a PET computer, back in third/fourth grade or so. Played a space-invaders type spelling game.

A couple years later I was playing Jumpman on my friend's C=64 and realized that I had to have a Commie of my own.

Our school also had some Unisys Icon computers, the ones with the built-in trackball... they came with some software pre-loaded, but overall I think they died and were a huge waste of money in the end.

Was in 1st grade I think, in my elementary school's computer lab. Used an Apple for LogoWriter if I remember correctly. Damn did I hate that turtle...

probably the doom shareware demo thinger...lol
edit: oh wait, thats wrong...thats the 1st thing i did with my very own computer....

1st time i used a pc was probably at school on a apple IIc i think...probably played Oregon Trail or some dumb educational software like math blasters or something.

1st time out of school was at my uncle's house. he had a Tandy 1000. i think thats the 1st time i really got into computers. don't remember the games i played on it though.

Gorilla, Nibbles, qbasic

Then started getting into games like Kings Quest, Tetris, Carmen Sandiego, Ultima...

Played Space Quark on the Apple IIc our dad had just brought home and hooked up to the TV, so it was in color and everything. He got it when it came out, I was about six.

The first time ever used a computer I was in my Dad's office. He had a game called Creature Adventure with line graphics. Later that year he bought a Franklin Ace computer for the home...An apple][+ clone.

The first thing I really remember using a computer for was playing some old games back in like 1989 in second or third grade. We'd just gotten a computer and I played a BMX bike game and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.

apple dig dug or some game like thaat or apple print shop way back in early 90s or something. or late 80s.
