And Iraq not abiding by their cease fire terms is not the same thing. In essence, if you sign a cease fire and never intend (or stop) to cease, you are still at war. If I recall during Gulf War I Iraq actually did declare war against the US as a symbolic gesture, but war nonetheless.
So, keep defending Saddam as much as you want. The fact of the matter is, he never respected the terms of the cease fire, hence, we were still at war.
At this point in time in WWII, the war was over, won, finished, mission accomplished, the Axis vanquished. There was no need for an exit plan at this point in the conflict.
Tell that to the 10,000 men that gave their lives in Germany and Japan fighting post war insurgencies. In Southern Germany some units fought for many months after the end of the war killing thousand of Allied soldiers. Hell, up to a few decades ago there were still random Japanese remnants killing farmers on remote Asian islands. Should we pull our supprt of Japan for this...
