What was the best Bath Towel you have ever used?

My "Grandmother In Law" got us some towels that I refer to as "Anti-Towels" as they are fucking worthless. I don't know if they are coated with something or whatever, but they don't actually soak up water. If I get out of the shower and that's all there is for towels I'll walk my soaking wet ass out into the hall and get a real towel. My wife will ask "Why is there a wet spot in the hallway?" to which I respond "Anti-towels".

Using fabric softener on towels ruins their absorbency.
 
I've been searching for some good bath towels for a while now. I find it to be one of those things that is damned hard to buy online. My old towels were Royal Velvet by Fieldcrest, and they were fantastic. Fieldcrest, though, has changed hands and gone through some bankruptcies in recent years. Now, I believe Royal Velvet is carried exclusively by J.C. Penney. I may give them another shot.

I recently purchased a set of these Pinzon 650-Gram Pima Cotton towels. Pinzon is Amazon's house brand for bath and bedding goods. They're nice towels, but not quite what I'm looking for. The nap/loops are short, so they don't have the thickness of some other towels, but they're very dense and extremely soft. Trouble is, they just don't feel as absorbent as my old towels.

Haha, I've never bothered with the initials but the towels themselves are worth it. They go 50% off at The Bay, which is like a Macy's equivalent here, on occasion. They were 50% off when I bought my most recent set; definitely worth it.

Oh, I hate soft towels... they are so annoying. They need some roughness to them. I just bought some from JCPenny - so soft... so annoying. I'm hoping washing them ruins it and their softness gets sent to the deepest part of towel hell.

As for a similar experience - only with hotel pillows... some of them have the best pillows ever... but I never wrote it down and then forgot about it and so alas - they are lost to me.

You have no idea how many times I've viewed this thread. Looking for really nice bath towels. My wife loves one of her Christmas gifts - a great big heated towel warmer, and a super-thick terry-cloth hooded robe (that fits in the towel warmer). Nothing beats sitting in the hot tub when it's well below freezing outside, and looking up at the 1000's of stars when the sky is exceptionally clear (as the cold nights tend to cause), and then getting out of the hot tub and stepping into a pre-heated robe. Now, I want some really nice towels to go along with it.
 
Initials = hard parts that don't absorb water, but eventually shrink distorting towel shape.
Softener = wax, impedes absorbing water.

Towel cycle
Wonderful fresh washed smell.
Smell wears off, essentially no smell.
Towel starts smelling like you.
Towel smells like vacuum cleaner bag.

Not all people prefer the same types of towel, buy one of half a dozen good types and see what you prefer before stocking up. Rejects = guest towels.

Fieldcrest premium line was Charisma, second line might of been Royal Velvet, but could also have been JCP.

I couldn't use the fluffy ones since my 5 o'clock shadow would pull fuzz off the towels and then I would have to pick it all off my face. I've been sticking to rougher towels.
 
I used to think all towels were more or less the same other than some being better because they were bigger.

Then we stayed at a hilton when in Baltimore.

yea, that towel was fucking awesome.
 
Damn it's hard for me to justify spending $40 on a towel.

Then again, I just spent $115 for two pillows cause I really needed them. (On sale, buy one get one 50% off, stack a 15% off coupon on top, and 6% off from ebates.com)

I stole one of my bath towels from the Aria in Vegas cause it was amazing. Overtime it kinda dried out and lost its softness though 🙁
 
Towel thread necro. Macy's doesn't seem to carry those RL Langdon towels, just a line a step below. Wonder if the outlets carry the same stuff...

as you can see it's been two years (so it's now 18 years old) and it still looks new.

i cannot stress this enough - i use this thing every single day. i throw it into the washing machine at whatever heat setting because i'm a man and i don't care, i wear it at home when i'm lazy, keep it on the floor, walk over it, i have subjected this robe to any imaginable abuse and it is indestructible, and it makes me feel like the king that i am when i wear it. best money ever spent, ever.

There is something about hotel towels and face cloths that make them great. Anything you buy pales in comparison. Always tempted to leave the hotel with them. I'm sure I would not be the only one. 😛
