Karl Rove and the Republicans getting the Gay Marriage Issue on the Ballots. This scared the crap out of Evangelicals in states like Ohio and made them come out to vote in droves.

I would lump "abortion" with the three Gs.

The God part of the three Gs implies that people are religious and believe in the bible, they are the ones that would view abortion as murder and thus wrong.

The Gay Marriage/abortion issue followed closely by ineffective campaign managers in Cahill and Shrum.

Gay marriage without question. The Evangelicals were terrified, and the issue was unpopular with the overwhelming majority of the voting public. Though Kerry claimed that he was against gay marriage, it was still a position of his party, and that killed him.

There were numerous other issues, but I feel strongly that without the gay marriage issue in the public's face he could have stood a chance after the debates. Neither candidate was truly appealing to the American public, but the gay marriage issue allowed Bush to claim moral superiority.

God, Guns and Gays and the Gay marrriage ban are essentially the same issue. If you combine them from the poll it is clear what happened.

Gay Ballot measure brough in the 'God and Gays' crowd out in droves, but they left their guns at home.
Can't bring a gun into a voting precinct - even they know the limits.
