I am getting a B.S. in Pro. Comm.

Personally I wish I had the talent and a good art school nearby that I could go to and major in some form of art. I like most of the people who I have met that are majoring in art. Most seem very bright and intelligent. I have thought about getting my masters in English perhaps creative writing or some such. What I really want out of a degree is to get the opportunity to do something I really enjoy. I hate the rat race and don?t think I would like working as a minion for someone else. I would rather work for peanuts then to do some type of work that I hate. I have already worked at places that I didn?t like and have decided that if I want to be happy in life I need to find some type of work that I get satisfaction from.

Yeah math and computer guys get the stereotype of being smart and all, but I know a bunch of these types (in real life) and I don?t think I could work with them for long because their head is swelled to big. I do know some that I am very good friends with, but just be careful. Stereotypes are often false and until you get involved with different types of people on a personal level it is better to withhold judgment. I guess it is like everything else there are good and bad, but I try not to label a whole group based on the dealing I have had with a random few.

A well-rounded person who do/knows a whole range of things will probably be pretty successful I would think. I tend to think that all this stuff is connected at points. Over time these connections change and things seem new, better and more advanced. If you can figure out the connections and bring about something that changes the old relationships just a little I think you will probably have something good.

With your kind of attitude I seriously doubt that McDonalds would even give you a call back.

And id NEVER apply so no lose by me.

And i notice how you dodged this argument:
If you dont think college should be a stepping stone to a job then you are proving my point.

And I would never apply so no loss by me. Work on your grammar a bit if you expect me to respect your arguments.

College should be whatever you want it to be. It can be a stepping stone to employment, a way to earn a higher salary at your current position, the pursuit of something you love, or just a sign of achievement.

If you were open minded you'd realize that its not how you say something but what you have to say. And if you dont respect my argument because it's not done with perfect grammer that says a lot about you. You'd rather believe a dumb argument writen perfectly, than a good argument writen that doesn't sound perfect. Thats the problem with english (as a class/subject). I view english as only a means to communicate--it doesn't have to sound perfect as long as you get your point across. Guess thats why almost all the authors--that actually SELL books--weren't english majors.

And if you were open minded you'd realize that it's not the degree you have, but what you do with it. And if you don't respect an art degree because it won't make you a doctor, an engineer, or a lawyer, that says a lot about you. You'd rather jump through the hoops and get the degree you were supposed to get, one that will be "acceptable" in the job market, rather than receiving an education for the love of doing so. That's the problem with college (in today's society). You view degrees as only a means to a job-- you don't have to enjoy it as long as you get through it eventually. Guess that's why you think an Art degree is a waste of time-- you don't like art, and if you do, you're not fit to practice it.

There is more to life than exact science. Until you realize this, I and the majority of the people here will continue to label you as ignorant, because that is what you are. Note, I am an EE major and have vast appreciation for the engineering/science field. But to claim something such as art, to be a waste of time and money only makes people wonder if you're 12 years old. I too, once thought this. And then I grew up. You should consider doing the same.

Well said.

Economics Major -

Interesting major, and definitely something that everyone should look into if they excel at Math. Absolutely the wrong major if you aren't good at Math.

I am bad at Math. Time to change my major...again.
