The Internal combustion engine. You might say...But what about the wheel?

You might also say...what about fire?

None are real creations, only the manipulation of things already here.

God created the earth and nothing in factual science disputes this..or supports it!

Here are the top 20 "inventions" that have improved our way of life in the last century, at least according to the National Academy of Engineering.

In order:

1. Electrification.
2. Automobile.
3. Airplane.
4. Water supply and distribution system.
5. Electronics.
6. Radio and television.
7. Agricultural mechanization.
8. Computers.
9. Telephone.
10. Refrigeration and Airconditioning.
11. Interstate Highway system.
12. Spacecraft.
13. Internet.
14. Imaging.
15. Household Appliances.
16. Health technologies.
17. Petroleum and Petrochemical Technology.
18. Laser and Fiber optics.
19. Nuclear technologies.
20. High performance materials.

Electrification is #1 because none of the other 19 would be possible without it.

Inventions are synergistic. That is, they build on previous inventions, so it would be difficult to name one "greatest" invention. For really good insight into this, check out the James Burke's Connections series, from PBS. If you're lucky, PBS or Discovery will run it again, sometime soon, but it is well worth renting or buying for a number of good nights of entertainment and learning. :)

IvoryGrail -- <<white-out>>

Ah, but do you know who invented white-out?

Answer: Michael Nesmith (The Monkees, etc.) mother. (True!)

<<Cystal Pepsi>>

Not so great. It's just a simple mixture of regular Pepsi and white-out. ;) :D
