SagaLore, are there any good vitamin/nutrition forums you'd recommend?

I occasionally visit here

Also RossMan feel free to PM me also if you have any questions.

Do you agree with SagaLore's post?

Can you recommend any liquid vitamins/supplements? Preferrably one that CostCo sells.

What's your experience or educational background concerning vitamins and nutrition?

Are you really Syringer-re-incarnated?

I take Centrum, most days when I remember to (weekdays are better because I have a routine, weekends are harder)

I agree somewhat with SagaLore's post. Most of my vitamins are taken in capsule form for better absorbtion, but liquid vitamins definately have their benefits.

My experience with vitamins and nutrition comes from my experience of supplementation and nutrition over the past 10 or so years. I have read a lot, researched etc, and have tried a lot. For more background on me skim through my supplements post.

What are your goals of taking vitamins? I am guessing general health?

Also no I am not syringer. Just a weightlifter and car lover with an affectionate side for motherboards 😉

Also Zim to answer your question of my occupation, I am a member of an independent contractor currently employed by the CIA 😉

1000 mg C
Calcium + D
Baby aspirin
Multivitamin (Costco)
Glucosamine + Chondroitin (3)
Iron (65mg)

With all do respect, but I am curious to why you spend so much, on complete crap? 😉

I am curious of what activities you engage in to need such a high concentration of over priced, marketed, vitamins? If you do not need such a high potency mix I suggest you stop taking them:

1. It will save you money, GNC is overpriced crap anyway, and even if the prices were reasonable it would still be crap, everything there is either a gimic or not a pure substance mixed with other unneccesary crap labeled with some fancy marketing term. An example would be N02 :|

2. If you are taking that much and not using it, your body just passes it through your system and not only is it just wasted when you urinate, but taking so much that is not needded can cause harm to your liver and kidneys.

If you do need that potency of vitamins I suggest you take different pills for each type of vitamin. Not only can you now take them at different types of the day for better absorbtion and effect, you can take them in the right ratios which GNC's megaman severely lacks on.

A simple multivitamin or even stress tab with zinc and some fish oil or flax seed oil (liquid form) is perfect for most people.

I don't really have any "goals" per say. I'd just like to take vitamins/minerals which I don't (but should) get from my daily diet. I just want the BEST BANG FOR MY BUCK vitamin without harming my body or raping my wallet.

Can you recommend a good all around "Toyota Camry of Micro ATX Socket 939" motherboard with decent integrated video/audio, FireWire, USB 2.0, DVI, blah blah blah?

Not at the moment. I had a forum dedicated to herbal remedies but I let the domain lapse because it wasn't getting any traffic. Maybe in the future I'll start a new one having to do with overall nutrition.

I can't vouch for the brand, but this looks like an excellent deal:

Costco: Flaxseed Oil

Start with that, let us know how you feel after a week of taking them (specifically your mental clarity). I didn't see anything worth buying at costco... I'll check iherb and get back to you.

Why do people take fish oil?

Who should take it?

What are the benefits, are there any risks?

I hear it makes it so people can get gills and breathe under water 🙂

Also, about the vitamins thing, just take any generic multivitamin. They are all similar. Perhaps consult a pharmacist for recomendadions based upon your lifestyle, body type, diet, etc. Consultations with pharmacists are free!

People take fish oil for the omega fatty acids. But, you have to be careful with it - salmon derived oil could contain PCBs or mercury, and it ages quickly and becomes rancid. You can get everything you need from flax and/or borage oil that you can from fish, but in different ratios and in much higher potency.

GNC multi vitamin...time release

Lots of GNC buyers here... my personal opinion is that their stuff is junk. Their calcium supplements use carbonate, their vitamins are synthetic.

Be careful with time released pills especially if it is B Complex. A study was done about B, and they found synthetic B actually caused more problems with your heart. Also, when it is time released, it can damage your liver because it isn't prepared for them so far down the small intestine.

I have been looking at Costco's available products and I really did not see any that impressed me. The reason why is they only carry generic multivitamins (which can be fine), and I would recomend some flax seed oil, of which they only have capsules. Flax seed oil is better taken in liquid form because most people recomend taking 10g of flax seed oil a day. A teaspoon of liquid flax seed oil (one servining size) is 5g (one does in the morning and one before bed). the average gelcap only has 1g of flax seed oil.

To answer your question about flax seed oil: Here is an article. It covers mostly everything I was going to say, but I have to run out soon and do not have the time to type something out lol 🙂

Also I would recomend buying your vitamins online from here: The Vitamin Shoppe

They have the best prices around (sometimes also has good prices) and you accumulate points everytime you buy something which usually makes for great discounts in the future.

I would reccomend trying these:
Flax seed oil, for reasons mentioned above. If you have any more questions about flax do not hesitate to ask.

This multivitamin You could take a three a day multivitamin, because usually you cannot get all your minerals and vitamins in sufficient numbers in one pill, but because of convience this is probably your best bet. The 300 count is much cheaper per oz then the 100.

If you eventually get into it and nutrition a bit more and like how you feel etc, for you, you might want to add 1000mg of vitamin C a day also.

None.

I'd like to see a study which shows that people who take multivitamins live longer vs people who just eat healthy. Sure multivitamins can't hurt but I am not convinced that there is really a benifit to taking them if you eat healthy.
