What video game did you play most as a child?

For the Atari 2600 it was space invaders or astroids.

For the Apple ][e it was lode runner, wizardy, and Ultima games.

I forgot I played most of the Info on games like Work and the others. I bought the Treasury on my iPad but after about a year I could not play it because of an update by apple.

Dunno about most, since I was a child, did not have disposable income and was reliant on my parents for new games so sometimes would end up playing something a lot that I didn't necessarily like.

But I can name the games I played a lot and did like.

Let's see here, there were a couple very solid contenders:

- Sim Ant

- Super Metroid

After the N64 era I got more and more into DIY PC gaming. I picked up an Xbox for Halo (which admittedly got a ton of play), but really only purchased a handful of games for it otherwise.

Also was in college and not really a "kid" in the traditional sense at that point.

The muscle memory is strong enough on Contra I can finish a 2 player game without dying with a skilled partner

Fallout 1(These games need no introduction. I love both parts)
Dethkarz - one of my first racing games
Fallout 2 (These games need no introduction. I love both parts)
Doom - A pretend 3D version, there was also WOlfenstein
Tekken - I played slot machines, bought currency, coins
Quake 3 Arena -One of the better shooters, I liked watching my big brother play - he was very good at Q3
Super Mario Bros Nes -One of the first games as a kid, I liked playing Mario when I woke up
Contra Nes - I played it with my older brother.
Diablo 2 - great game,
and I'm waiting for Diablo 2 resurrected - D2R will be release soon
This is a remastered version of the old DIablo 2, but with improved textures and some skill mechanics.
Overall, I spent the most time playing Diablo II

I can't believe how few people have played Fallout 2. I love the gruesome death animations when you score a critical or how the hookers on the street shout catcalls at you after becoming a porn star. Probably the best American RPG I have ever played.

- I think its just hard for us old timers to conceptualize how much smaller the market was back then. If a game sold 500,000 copies it went gold and was a smashing success, while the same sales number wouldn't even be on the radar for all but the most indie titles nowadays.

This discussion could also be the "tell me how old you are without telling me how old you are" thread. It's a bit wild to see everything from very early video games through to mid-oughts titles.

I already outlined what I played back in the day, but I'll say this: I'm old enough to remember when 3D-anything in a game was a big deal, and making boot disks devoted solely to running one game properly.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles. First game I could remember where you could save your progress. Felt amazing.

SimCity, Civilization, and XCom were probably the top 3 time wise.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Doom as well, but I played through that one pretty quickly.

-Sometimes I'm on a nostalgia kick and I go back and play some of the really old stuff from the "rental generation" that were basically dark souls for kids since they were designed to be absolutely brutal to complete to push additional rentals and to hide the fact that the games were not actually very long.

WIthout having whole summers or late nights to be able to practice practice practice there games tend to just be exercises in frustration when played an hour at a time.

PC games suffered from this far less thanks to the ability to save progress even in some of the oldest games.

I'm still good playing NES Contra, Mega Man, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, etc. But Ghosts n Goblins kicks the living crap out of me every single time I try that game. There is NES hard, and then there is Ghosts n Goblins two steps beyond that lol. I suck at arcade Contra though, such a ridiculous idea to use a tate screen for that game.
