Hard to say which game had the most playtime (couldn't really check like we can nowadays) but I spent countless hours on the following games as a child (i.e. OG PlayStation):

- Crash Team Racing
- Twisted Metal 4
- Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense
- Legend of Dragoon
- Breath of Fire 3

SNES
  • Super Mario World
PC
  • All the NovaLogic titles when my parents bought our first PC in 1997 (Flight-sims, Delta Force series, etc)
  • Most of the Blizzard titles since the late 90s (Primarily Diablo II + Lord of Destruction expansion and Warcraft III and The Frozen Throne expansion)
  • Starsiege Tribes and all of the Tribes games that were released in the years following
Xbox/360
  • Tiger Woods golf series (played this from all the way through EA releasing Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, after cutting ties with Tiger in 2013; was sad to see it die)
  • NCAA Football
  • Madden

Considering the NES didn't come out until 1986 in my country and I was not far from 15 years old by the time I got mine (so don't really consider me a child anymore at that point), I'd have to say probably Donkey Kong.

...Yes, the Game&Watch version. Kind of counts as a console, doesn't it? :p

NES

TMNT The Arcade Game
Blaster Master
Maniac Mansion

SNES

The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
Contra III The Alien Wars
Super Ghouls N' Ghosts
Super Mario World

I had to list all of these because they were all played equally. Probably thousands of hours each. So can't say.

Sonic games
Joe Montana and Madden Football
Warsong (Langrisser)
Shining Force 1 and 2
Shinobi
SF 2
MK

I pretty much played all of the fighting games on Genesis. Later on won an SNES in a fighting game comp, and got into all of the SNES rpg: Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, Earthbound, Breath of Fire.

As a teen, I was either chasing tail or playing games in the middle of working/school.. good times!!

Depends which stage of childhood, but I'd have to say MegaMan's were at least half of the time I spent playing games when I was under 16. I started in on fps after that with Wolfenstein, quake, then went competitive on UT99 for a while. Huge time sink when playing competitive. Then real life took over and I got thru little stages where I play a lot, not so much now....they kinda just make me really annoyed

Combat/Tanks Plus on the Atari 2600. The eighties were a hug gap of not playing. Then ~1992 Sid Meier's Civilization on 286 PC. The Nettrek on a Silicon Graphics and then not again until 1998 with Half-Life and Team Fortress Classic in 1998/99. I then made the transition after the first year of the Xbox and played Ghost Recon 2002, and Rainbow Six 2003. I continued on with console up until two years ago when I walked away from gaming--did I grow up?

I remember back in the day, everyone was comparing Shinobi to Ninja Gaiden. I liked both equally.

I almost thought the Magnavox Odyssey, but when we got the 2600 that thing never saw the light of day again. The games I played the most were probably space invaders, asteroids, and pole position.

Probably either Super Mario Bros. 3 or Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!. They are still two of my favorite games.

I can barely remember what I played a few years ago, let alone in the 80's when I was a kid. All I know is we got a NES for Christmas and have had pretty much every console from Nintendo, Sega, Sony and MS since then. If I had to single in on a single game, I would probably beat Zelda at least once a weekend over the summer. That map is imprinted on my brain.

Probably Street Fighter II.

But when I remember that I got to a point where I could clear Contra without a single death, I must have played that a lot to get there, haha.

I remember spending a lot of time with Super Mario Bros and SMB3, Faxanadu, Kid Icarus, Simon's Quest.

I know I played FFII way more than FFIII, and Super Metroid. I think my fastest clear time in Super Metroid was just under 2 hours.
