I have to 2nd that almost all spiders are venomous, and add, that you can't just tell by looks whether or not a spider is venomous, if you where in fact facing one.

Spiders are not "poisonous", toadstools are "poisonous". Spiders, snakes and scorpions are "venomous". All spiders are venomous to some degree although very few have venom that is dangerous to humans. The Brown Recluse is one of the ones that's dangerous, but that isn't a brown recluse.
