Mac snobs were first for so long, but since Windows will run on Macs now, the purists are tied to be fit. Now, Macs are fully versatile.

By saying that, I should be getting a lot of h*te mail. To each his own.

It was too hard to pick a specific distro of snobs, so I just went with the eyeball-scooping option.

I haven't found mac people to be too bad, until you wander into their breeding grounds (like macrumors or something). Then you have to be careful not to threaten their babies or they'll flay you alive.

Linux people can get pretty bad too, such as when Ubuntu people act like evangelists by ordering hundreds of cds, leave them in stacks on the counter at McDonald's and then congregate on the web to congradulate eachother on saving the world.

If we define "computer snob" as somebody who arrogantly displays a personality of superiority for using a specific platform, when in fact it's not that great, then indeed Mac users are the poster children for this category.

The sad things is you actually have to be carefull when you mock Apple users for this attitude because most of the time they don't understand the insult, or, they have to resort to research on Apple.Com for their scripted responses. I present you the world according to Apple users:

- All windows machines constantly crash and require twice daily reboots.
- Microsoft Builds PC's.
- OSX never requires updates and all drivers for all devices are built in.
- Anything cool and innovative on the PC side was invented by Steve Jobs
- Microsoft should be prohibited from incorporating anything usefull with their OS because it's anti competitive. Apple should be allowed to incorporate any iWare they want.
- OSX is UNIX. UNIX is OSX
- All Linux users wish they could upgrade and own a Mac
- A 300mhz Mac is faster than a 3ghz PC because OSX is more efficient than Windows.

Easiest way I've found to deflate the ego of a Mac user is ask them to list the numbers of Mac's used in any server farm in any Fortune 500 company. Then note the number of Macs used for mission critical tasks such as editing out love handles on middle aged business men and touching up stretch marks on models.

You forgot to point out that UNIX is rock solid and secure because it's open source.

Don't you mean Unix? I thought UNIX was not open source...

Some Unix is. OpenSolaris is, Open/Net/FreeBSD, is. Those are 'real' Unix systems. Linux might as well be considured Unix, to the end user there isn't much difference and to most programmers they can choose to treat it like a pure POSIX system if they feel like it.

OS X is closed source though. As is SCO Unixware and Openunix (both of which probably still have code from Microsoft-written code floating around them from years ago). As is AIX from IBM and HP-UX from HP. All of those system use a lot of open source originated code, but don't actually release it. (those are the 'live' closed source unix varients I know about.. others include Tru64 (now owned by HP) and Irix (SGI), but those are dead and aren't going to be developed on. Still they will be around for a few years now until the last of their end users switch to Linux)

Apple gives some code back and supports darwin, which is pretty much the BSD-based part of OS X, but that's only part of OS X. There is still a lot of the Nextstep-based (Steve Job's Unix) stuff and the MacOS stuff in it. As well as the newer things Apple has developed since they released OS X. That's all closed source.

Tsk, tsk. Nothing gets a machead more upset than trying to bring reality into the picture.

suffice to say i was really surprised.

and i answered your poll wrong because the question is completely opposite of what you ask in the thread title and OP.

You're talking about the sales people. Out of the actual users, the worst computer zealots have to be the Mac users....they can't stop talking about how superior they believe the Mac OS to be and blah blah blah.

i'll have to try and find some zealots then, most of these "actual users" seemed okay. but again, they were trying to sell me something, so ranting and raving probably wouldn't be good.
