it's funny, i used to think mac snobs. but i'm learning otherwise. i went shopping for a powerbook last week at the apple store, and the people there were extremely helpful, friendly and polite. this is completely opposite of what i see from "windows" people at stores that sell pcs (compusa, best buy, those types). they tend to be know it all kids who really don't have a clue what they are talking about. granted it could be the enviornment, or that the mac people are trying to pull you into their cult, but who knows.

suffice to say i was really surprised.

and i answered your poll wrong because the question is completely opposite of what you ask in the thread title and OP.

I'd say linux snobs are the worst. they tend to be elitist hardcore pricks most often.

Linux snobs are pretty bad with their proprietary drivers and binary blobs. Freedom doesn't mean enough to them. :(

A man dies and goes to Heaven. Saint Peter is showing him around and they walk past a huge wall. "What's this?", asks the man. "Oh", replies Saint Peter, "That's where we keep the Catholics. Not so loud, they think they're the only ones here."

For some reason, listening to Windows admins always reminds me of that joke.

Linux
Windows
Mac
BSD

Mean to Nice

Linux is the worse, becuase they seem to think that they are geniuses because they just installed a new linux distro or learned to ping in the terminal. Sort of like a false sence of pride.

Then windows, becuase so many people use it, their will always be a lot of snobs. As mensioned above, some tend to think they know-it-all.

Mac snobs are next just because they consider themselfs the "light side" I think it is. Oh and Steve Jobs sucks, thats why I hate the Mac population ;)

BSD has much less snobs, becuase people that use BSD tend to actually be more educated and not l33t h4x0rs.

I'll take Mac snobs...mainly cause they don't have some 10000 line list of complaints against the MS devil like the others...

Given that mac fan boys go out of their way to convert people to apple they try harder to convert you because for what ever reason they get a little tingle inside while doing it.

Here's what I've learned through my experience:

Linux fan boys will prove their points through examples and are well versed in their OS. If you have a discussion with one you had better know your stuff but at least civil debates are possible. Linux fan boys are passive and usuall only show themselves when misinformation is given about linux.

MS fan boys know their weaknesses and typically have an open mind. Discussions with MS fan boys can quickly erupt into a point counter point discussion and having an answer to the weaknesses they point out about the other side is key. MS fan boys can be hard to spot but usually show up when other fan boys are basking in their own stink and are quick to point out faults of the other side.

Apple fan boys are akin to a religious cult where they defend anything their leader says right or wrong and fail to see the world as it really is. Discussions with apple fan boys usually end up as shouting matches where their points having no rationale to them and are typically hypocritical. The biggest strength an apple fan boy has is in it's brotherhood mentality, they show themselves anytime there is an opportunity to "convert" a non apple user or praise apple. When negative publicity about MS shows up they show up in force and are quick to spew their rhetoric. They are also quick to latch on to anything that might have some positive spin for apple but they don't stop there, they will also show up when there is negative press about apple and they will do their best to spin it into something more positive or to play down any negativity that might be geared towards any and all things apple related. They are indeed a cult where their god is steve jobs and all he produces and touches is divine.

I know one bsd fan boy and I doubt he represents them at all. My guess is that they are similar to a MS fan boy.

You're talking about the sales people. Out of the actual users, the worst computer zealots have to be the Mac users....they can't stop talking about how superior they believe the Mac OS to be and blah blah blah.

Yeah if I wanted or needed a smart salesman who can show me how to use the OS the mac salesman would be my first choice. But to be stuck in a room with a fan boy, a mac fan boy would be my last option after scooping my eyes out:p

Top 5 (ranked least snobish to most snobbish)
5. WinXP 64-Bit
4. Macintosh
3. Linux
2. Amiga
1. OpenBSD

(Amazingly, I don't find FreeBSD users to be very snobbish. But OpenBSD? Off the charts, man!)

Read too quick also. Your title and summary are poorly worded. My vote was intended to be the Mac snobs are worst.

MAC its a cult... and trying to reason with a cult is by far the most annoying thing ever.
Windows Zealots are narrowminded a lot of the time, but by far usually base their arguments in reality.
BSD... they have snobs? most users seem pretty friendly.
Linux... some pretend to be newb friendly but then make fun of the newbs when they fail to understand some basic linux principle when starting out.

OSes are like religions in a sense... so don't try and sell me yours and I won't try to sell you mine... ask me a question... I'll try and answer it.
Trying to convert people is stupid, getting them to try something differnt is good.

Back in the early 90's, I used to find Mac Snobs entertaining to listen to. :)

I really don't mind people expounding on their favorite OS. But it's always important to remember that everybody's needs are different, and there's seldom a single "correct" answer for computer needs.

It's nowhere near as bad as it used to be (from any group). Right now just about everyone is concerned with interoperability...

it was much worse in the 90s

In my life, Mac snobs have been by far the worst. They seem to go out of their way to let you know how inferior you are, as though your computer is somehow a reflection of your value as a human being.

But like school bullies, at night when the lights are out, they cry because they're so lonely.

/I kid, I kid
