Those that say that HAVE to use premium, check your owners manual or online. A lot of high performance cars that recommend premium can also run on mid-grade just as well. You will lose some HP but not enough to notice unless you are at the track.

My parents Z28 calls for premium but I put mid in a couple times and they did not notice and run that all the time now.

Not all cars, especially older ones, can retard the timing or adjust as well. But if it was made in the last 5-10 years you can probable run Mid-grade just fine, Especially if it calls for 91octane, not 93.

You do notice the reduced power. My car is noticeably slower with the reduced timing, and pinged when it had 87 in it.

Well thats why I said MID level gas NOT low octane (87).

I agree using 87 in a Z28 or other car that recommends premium will lose a decent amount of power and can probable be fealt. But going to mid you will probable not notice anything, except the extra money in your pocket.

1999 Honda Civic Si
Compression Ratio - 10.2:1
Required fuel octane - 91

How about a nice tall frosty mug of SHUT THE H@LL UP?

Take your own advice.

Could the above post have any less value? Is he trying to string together some sort of argument using random quotes?

He even quoted my sig.... how ironic.

HA. In Spain, the lowest octane is in the 90s. Of course gas is about $1.50.....

per liter.

Most other countries use a different method for Octane rating then the US does.

I didn't know a civic requires high octane gas?

Agreed, It all depends on where in the nation/world you live in. In Florida the highest you can buy (except for 120 racing- illeagal for street use) is 93 while the lowest is 89. I have been to other parts of the USA and seen 87 as the low and 91 or 92 as the high.

I use Premium because that's what it requires (supercharged engine).

Same here, stupid GTP (aka money pit) :D

My SSEi was a money pit for the first few months after I bought it, but it's worth it. :D

Edit: And I also tend not to drive a whole lot when at school (roughly five thousand miles in the last seven months, including vacations/breaks), so high gas prices don't affect me too much. :)

Thanks, now I don't have to post about it. Amazing that everyone remembers I drive a Civic, but remembering the year and everything. Pretty good

It's not always wise to run what your car manual says. My car says it requires 87, but it's an old and beat up Chevy and I get pinging if I run 87, so I use mid-grade and it runs fine.

I know its true, I know nothing about cars at all. I've done 2-3 engine swaps on Honda's. Completely rebuilt 3 different kind of motors, Domestic and Japanese. I work on my car for EVERYTHING that goes wrong with it, and the Dart for fun (its a drag car). All of my friends do the same. I started when I was just barely old enough to walk, my dad tells me all the time about how I took his tools, and then took of the front bumper of his old truck at like the age of 6. My Dad is a retired mechanic and has worked on cars his whole life, so I always had someone to help me. Yea I know absolutely nothing

I could have mentioned the fact that its high compression as well, but I forgot how presumptuous and "elite" everyone around here is. God forbid I should misspell something, or not give all the information.

So you don't know much about cars then... :)
Ditto for me as well.
