89 when it is at least 3% cheaper than 87. Otherwise 87.

89 with ethanol has 3% less energy per gallon, so it needs to be at least 3% cheaper to be worth while. In much of the midwest, 89 is cheaper due to subsidies.

Last time I went, the price was $2.43 for 89 which is 4% cheaper than the $2.53 for 87. I got the 89.

you use what the car requires. no reason to use anything more.

This. There are two exceptions to this. Sometimes the manufacturer recommends 91 octane, but states that 87 is all that's required. The car will run better on 91, but 87 won't damage it. If it requires 91, then using 87 might damage it.

The other exception is if you get a tune to a certain octane. If it's a 91-octane tune, then it doesn't matter what the manual says, you need to use 91.

Edit: I answered 87 as that's all that my vehicles require.

Shell 87 octane. I bought my car new and other than what was in it when I bought it and one tank since it has been nothing but Shell. The 5 cents for the off brand just isn't worth it to me.

90. 91 is recommended in my manual. Husky gas stations sell 90 for the price of 87, so good deal for me.

I buy from the cheapest place, but stations only carry one grade in South Korea and no octane is listed.

It depends on the car.

87 Octane:
03 Miata Sport, 05 Frontier NISMO 4WD, 07 Fit, 10 Outback

91-93 Octane:
04 Forester XT, 05 STi

I have to use 91+; the manufacturer states that lower octane could damage the engine. Note that the S65 has a 12.0:1 compression ratio.

87 because the manual calls for it, and I get the best mpg out of it. No sense in running 89 or higher on a vehicle that doesn't require it, there are no benefits in doing so.

I also run BP almost exclusively. Best mpg from their gas as well.

Quoted for stupid.

So please tell me how this "magic" additive will make my fuel pump last longer. :awe:

What is so hard to understand about sufficient cleaning strength? You buy shitty gas with lower concentration of detergeant. Confreakingatulations. I will pass and buy Shell or Chevron, as I do not drive a POS.

See people, this is why gas companies charge more and spend more on marketing. There are people out there this dumb that buy it hook line and sinker. :awe:

So again, how is your magic "cleaners" going to keep my fuel pump lasting longer.

87 Octane with 0-85% ethanol per the manufacturer's instructions. If you put any fuel in your car other than what the manufacturer tells you to, you're an idiot.
