It looks like an air cooled porsche 911 flat 6.

91 octane, high compression, manual says and mileage sucks without it. Pretty sure this is because the ECU richens the mix to prevent detonation, or does somthing to the timing.

Using higher octane than required often gives you worse gas mileage. It burns cooler than lower octane gas, so get less go per burn. I use the cheapest as specified in my manual.

That's a sweet ride. I love aircooled vehicles, and wish somebody would make them again. I don't think it's possible to build the kind of car I like with current regulations though :^(

I've found that the car seems to run "rough" on 87 (hesitation, lack of power), but seems to run the same on either 89, 91, or 93.

Oh.. and this poll is missing options for diesel and high octane racing fuel.

Keep your ears open for pinging, especially in the summer. You can damage the engine if it gets out of control.

What I fill up with varies by vehicle. My Tundra and Sequoia call for 87. The wife's Lexus calls for either 91 or 93, can't remember off the top of my head.

I just use Plus because that is what the manual says to use (Lexus RX330).

I used Plus in my Toyota 4 Runner and even though there are many other factors concerning the life of the vehicle, I had 265K miles on it when it was totalled...and it was still running strong. RIP my best vehicle ever

92 and, if I can get it, 93 in all my vehicles. Of course, two are turbocharged and the other two are air-cooled and tend to run a bit hotter than normal engines so they ping on lower octane.

If I had a car that only required 87, I'd run 87 without a worry in the world.
